I pluged in my dongle to do a longer trip this weekend and after only 17 months and 26,000 km, my battery has degraded 10.5%. Is this normal, seems a bit high to me. I can count on one hand how many times I have fast charged and very seldom charged the battery over 80%. Has anyone else experienced issues like this??

To get an accurate reading, you need to charge to 100%, then drive down below 20%, then charge to 100%, and check at a battery temp of 77 degrees.

I thought you previously said "charge it to 100% and leave it on the charger for XX hours" .... where XX was 4 or 6.... no?

Thanks for posting this again, as this has been posted quite a bit lately.
The battery-use cycle / charging-cycle needs to be performed in such a ways as to get an accurate reading of the HV battery overall condition/degradation.

With this being the case, it will be interesting to see....in the not too distant future, how will consumers be able to really know the HV battery condition when shopping for a used EV.

This could/can be a difficult proposition for such a big item to consider when purchasing.

I am using a dangle that talks directly with the car, temperature, voltage everything. I am not sure that charging up and depleting us needed. I also have a Lightning and when using the dongle on the lightning, it shows 0% degradation to the battery. Naturally they both have seperate profiles.
I asked google if this is normal and it says it is. I just think it's high for so little use

The problem is you are using a dangle, instead of a dongle.

And, you are incorrect.

Really? Are you a tech?? So the dongle that talks to a car that are used by techs is wrong and you know this because ?? Give your head a shake. I have two EV, each one showing different values, each one on different profiles. Unless you are a master tech, drop the definitive comments. Not helpful in blogs.

Rick may not be a master tech but what he is stating is accurate. Search the forum and you will see several posts lately basically similar to yours. There is a procedure, as Rick stated, to go through to obtain an accurate reading. And no I am not a master tech either but the procedure has worked for others and makes sense.

It’s wrong because your battery hasn’t been properly calibrated in probably ever. @RickMachE gave you the short and simple version of the battery calibration process. Unless you’re routinely driving the car down
to a low soc and routinely charging it to 90% there’s a good chance the prgogram you’re using to read the data from your obd2 reader isn’t quite right.

There’s an entire thread on it located over here:

I think it’s pronounced dangle if you live south oh the Mason-Dixon Line. :)
Make sure you don’t dangle your dongle or you could be arrested ?

I tried to get some stats on my car using OBD2 and 'Car Scanner' app on iphone. I did not see any battery health stats available.
Do I need to upgrade or switch the app?
thx,john

This is correct. The high voltage battery management system gets a calibration drift over time, making any attempt to read the SoH or SoC incorrect. The system should be calibrated quarterly or more frequently based on how much power is used. A lot of people need to calibrate monthly if they do not habitually drive to a low SoC and charge back to 100% on a regular basis. ??
