I had not heard of this company, VinFast, until they announced a new EV plant in North Carolina. Their business model is for the buyer to purchase the vehicle but rent the battery. I hope that isn't going to be an industry trend.

Why - if it is a good business model. Also potentially a better way to eventually recycle batteries.

Saw their SUVs at the LA Auto Show last November. Preferred the look of the Mullen and Fisker.

When I have heard of such business models in the past, it was because they planned to provide fast battery swaps in lieu of waiting for a long time to charge. They were planning a network of battery swap stations where you would pull in with a discharged rented traction battery and pull out 5 minutes later with a fully charged rented pack. Could be easier to implement in Asia where there is not as much urban sprawl. With more population density, they can likely get by with less stations.
