It’s finally time to replace my tires. Got 50,000 on the OEM set but they’re down to the nub.

Of Michelin, Goodyear, and Continental, what is my best bet?

Priorities in order:
1. Low rolling resistance (don’t want a huge range hit)
2. Treadlife
3. Quiet
4. Comfort (the Mach E already has a stiff ride)
5. All season (but snow is not huge issuein Kansas).

I’m willing to tolerate a slight range hit in exchange for good performance in the other areas, but I don’t want a set that is gonna drop my range by 30mi out the gate.

Tires I’ve gotten quotes for…
- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
- Michelin Cross Climate 2
- Continental Truecontact Tour
- Goodyear Assurance Maxlife

Is there something wrong with the factory tires that's making you look for an alternative?
If you got 50k miles out of the factory tires then you're doing very well. Is there something with the performance you don't like?

I think from you list, the Michelin's will likely cause a drop in range in exchange for better grip.

The contental and Goodyear are probably close to the factory Michelins.

I got the Hankook Ion Evo AS SUV as replacement to the factory michelins. Don't notice any drop in range. They do run a little smoother and quieter than the factory tires.

I just replaced my Hankook Ion with the Michelin Pilot A/S tires and was surprised at how much quieter and better ride they were over the Hankooks. Also while small sample size but my work commute has exactly same performance of approximately 19% battery usage for 47 miles of highway driving. Really liking this tire so far

I recently put on Michelin Cross Climate 2, others asked me to see how much of a hit I took on mileage. I can’t really say after 200 miles because when I put them on, it was in the high 60s low 70s outside and now today it was in the high 80s, and my 50% battery range today was 120, but the air conditioner was blowing pretty good. I think it said climate control was 10% so I’m not sure if I’m taking a big hit. I put the 255/45/20s on mine.

but I can say the ride on them are whole world difference than the Continental that came on my GT and zero noise.

There are a # of reviews/tests out there on both EV and ICE vehicles for the Michelin CC tires (various versions of it), They seem to introduce a 5-10% efficiency penalty. Which may or may not be noticeable by each individual.

I would say that’s probably a fair percentage, I’m going charge up to 100% today just to see what kind of mileage it ends up being after 100% charge and then how far I can go.

Out of the tires on your list I would do the Pilot Sport 4 A/S

One other tire you should consider is the Vredetein Quatrac Pro + it's considerably better in the wet and much lower rolling resistance than the CC2 & PS 4 A/S One other important advantage is they are asymmetrical so you can do a 4 tire rotate.

Check them out on TR

Here is the test result from the old Quatrac Pro the new tire improves handling and breaking

I did them in a 245/50/19 105v smooth, quite, great handling and braking

I’ve read good things about the pilot sport for evs, but then I saw it only has a 30,000 treadlife. That’s gonna be a pass for me. I’m looking for something with at least a 50k warranty. The others on the list seem to qualify. The CC looks pretty good but I worry it’ll be too “sticky” re rolling resistance.

I’m trying to find the Goldilocks tire that does pretty good at everything.

I was going back-and-forth with Mark Boris on tires and such and if you’re aggressive driving, you’re looking for tires that are going to stick I suppose, the cross climates is from what I understand a grand touring tire for someone that does not drive aggressively and their great in the rain i understand, so I don’t know. Are those considered sticky tires? I know you can rotate all four as well.

Can you speak to your experience with range before/after?

I'm also curious to see how Goodyear's second iteration of the ElectricDrive, due out in May, performs.

True but because they are directional you can only rotate front to back without dismounting the tires.

The CC is more focused on snow performance than wet or handling.

I don’t know if it makes it difference but to tell you the truth it almost seems like if you can only go front to back and your driving an all wheel drive car I’m sure the front will wear a little bit more than the rear from turning, but you could probably almost get away with not even rotating them at all I don’t know?

These tires have the Euro Labels so it's easy to compare. If you are not aware in Europe tires are rated for rolling resistance. They are given letter grades A through E with a 2% difference between letter grade.

Quatrac Pro+ In 225/55/19 and 245/50/19 are rated B. The Michelin Primacy A/S is not available in Europe but Michelin has stated it's their most efficient tire. So the Primacy would be rated A. I figure they are about 2% less.efficent than the factory tires.

That's not bad because most tires not EV specific are much worse
