It does end up showing in Feet when you get closer
Mine varies by speed. If on the freeway it appears exactly at 0.5 miles from the exit or junction.
At slower speeds it is .2 miles I believe....
The switches over to feet as I slow down and approach the turn.

So its interesting that you mentioned this, cause I was thinking the same thing...

For me, my blue bar never worked till I took it in for service to get the stuck 1.7.1 update fixed about a month ago. Prior to that it would just have a solid bar that did absolutely nothing, never shortened.

Since I got 1.7.1 working the bar started to work, but I too only noticed it working on freeways. I kind of just assumed it was a speed thing, going over X speed and it would give you an idea so you would not pass your turn. Going below X speed and you would not get the bar. I don't know the exact date, but I did notice it within the last few days that it is now always showing up for each turn, even on side streets.

There's a blue bar? Am I the only one who has no idea what you guys are talking about?

Apparently so...

Just got my car two weeks ago. The blue bar has been there when using the Ford Nav since I got it.

When using google maps though, I don't even get any type of indication that there is a turn coming up on the dash. None at all. I feel like Ford is trying to force me to use their nav which is free...for the first three years.

Does anyone else get any indications when using google maps?
Google maps won’t show in the instrument cluster. Ford naviagation and Apple Maps via Apple Car Play do show navigation in the instrument cluster.

Google Maps shows directions in my IPC. The "blue bar" works also. The bar is fairly recent after one of the OTAs. The directions have displayed for quite a while, though I won't swear it was from day 1.

I’ll have to try that out. Is this through Apple Car Play or Android Auto?

Was that there since you took delivery of the car or is that new?
It's definitely new. I'm not sure which update might have done it. It could have been an OTA (I have received all but 2.4) or an update at the dealership (I had at least 21P22).

Yep I just noticed it consistently working recently as well. It used to just be a solid blue bar, but now it shrinks based on distance to the next turn. Seems fine for any turn and works great!! I've seen it work with both Ford and Google maps for me.

I'm running Android auto on a Galaxy S10+.

I think Sync can and has updated via some other process other than the broadcast OTAs (1.6.0, 1.7.1, 2.1.0 etc). In the past year I have observed updates for things such as HOV lane guidance, speed sensitive zoom, 3D maps, blue bar function etc. For SiriusXM same thing....icon size and graphic changes, rewind song, artist/song alerts etc. Also the phone app has updated with things like 3 way calling, placing callers on hold to answer another call etc.

All of these updates occurred at times separate from the announced OTAs. In the Ford PTS system, Sync has its own tab separate from the other system modules and it's own software calibrations. Seems like a stand alone and separate system from the powertrain, chassis and body modules.

That being said...there have been some updates to Nav as part of a published OTA also. The rearranging of the menus come to mind....

I just find it interesting how Sync appears to update without permission (I have Auto Update turned off) or any sort of announcement like we see with the other OTAs.

Apple CarPlay will limit you to Apple Maps in the IPC. Android auto will be Google Maps.
Maybe this is why I never see them in the IPC. I am using apple car play but prefer Google Maps because ... it's light years better than apples B.S. lol
