This evening I was at a convenient store getting a beverage and a Washington State Patrol was there. “it’s that your Mach E. I responded yes he said it was very nice looking and just a reminder “Blue Cruise is illegal in Washington State”. Was he playing with me or serious?

I've got to think he was pulling your leg and just showing that he is familiar with the car.

But, I don't know, at all, and can't offer anything useful.

This is an example of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". He seems to be confusing BlueCruise will fully autonomous driving systems. Washington only allows testing of autonomous vehicles by three companies and their vehicles must be registered under a special program. However, the the law clearly defines autonomous as levels 4-5 under the ADAS specifications (https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.92&full=true). A recent fatality where a Tesla driver killed a motorcyclist brought this to public attention (https://www.seattletimes.com/seattl...topilot-before-fatal-monroe-crash-police-say/).

As BlueCruise is considered to be an ADAS level 2 (or perhaps 2+) system. It is certainly neither level 4 nor level 5.

Well there is now an NHTSA investigation into three fatalities involving BC, so that might change.

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/nhts... Traffic Safety,that resulted in 3 fatalities.

The only thing that could even remotely be considered illegal about BlueCruise is if somewhere in state law it says that drivers have to have their hands on the wheel at all times when operating a motor vehicle. But even if they see the BlueCruise screen active in your car, how would they know you don't have your hands on the wheel below window level? Assuming you don't put your hands out on the side of your head like antlers and stick out your tongue. ???

If the car engages automated driving then the car is viewed as the responsible driver. Therefore Ford is responsible? Our crime is engaging it?

Going to be some rich lawyers in the years to come. Thanks for the heads up.

I prefer going to Washington rather than around BC Canada to use Blue Cruise. 45 mins to Costco US, 35 mins on Blue C. 25 mins to Costco locally, 3 mins on Blue C. Better parking, better variety.

The gas queues are crazy. Oh yeah, not my worry. Just the state trappers, oops troopers worrying about the car doing a better job driving than me.

Wonder how many fatal crashes without bc? Of course using some matrix to account for fewer bc cars available. We have 100's of fatal accidents. Most don't even make a mention on the news. Can't even find good statistics. But even if a human (there was supposed to be) would have caused fatal accident we expect self driving to avoid ALL accidents. And probably would if everyone followed the rules of the road 100% of the time. Most accidents caused by one driver or both drivers making a mistake and not following rules of road. Speed, lane change, red lights, stopping, following distance, falling asleep, inattentive driving, stopping in middle of road at night with no lights, etc.

Yeah nobody cares unless it's either an EV or some type of automation. Nobody talks about the 1000s of ICE fires every year, but one EV burns and it's all everyone is talking about. ?

And I do not know any ICE who has any autonomous driving. You?

Well my Lincoln Corsair is ICE and has BC 1.2, so at the very least fits with the theme of the thread.
