We’re excited to announce that the BlueOval Charge Network – the largest public charging network in North America – is now even larger with the addition of our 14th public charging network partner: IONNA!

With the addition of IONNA to the BlueOval Charge Network, you now have access to the 400 kW chargers at IONNA Rechargeries located across the US right from the FordPass app on your phone or the Public Charging app on your vehicle’s touchscreen.

Today, you’ll have access to IONNA Rechargeries in:
• Apex, NC
• Willoughby, OH
• Springfield, OH
• Scranton, PA
• Abilene, KS
• Houston, TX

With plans to grow to over 1,000 charging bays by the end of 2025, and 30,000 by 2030 – IONNA is committed to providing EV drivers with the coverage you need, the reliability you deserve and the amenities you crave. As IONNA grows, so does your ability to get charged up with the BlueOval Charge Network.

As a friendly reminder, you can use the BlueOval Charge Network to pay for public charging at over 180,000 public chargers across 14 networks around the US and Canada in three ways – plus you can get real-time in-use status and pricing information for all these networks - all from one account and without the need to download any additional apps:

With the addition of IONNA, as of March 20, 2025, you now have access to public chargers from the following networks with your BlueOval Charge Network account:
  • IONNA
  • Blink

The irony is Ford is about the only automaker not part of IONNA.

Still very cool IONNA is being added as one of its stations is coming to a Whole Foods near my office.

Fun fact: Iona is the name of a Scottish island, very cool Irish Christian band (I'm not religious but the music is great) and was the name of a very cute Scottish attendant working at Stirling Castle in Stirling, Scotland back when I visited in the 90's ?.

Never heard of them, but cool that Ford keeps expanding its network.
The more the merrier.

Very cool, but two questions:
1. As a Mustang Mach E owner, what is the benefit to me that the chargers are 400 kW?
2. why aren’t more networks “plug and charge” capable? I really hate doing the dance of downloading the app, entering my credit card details, having charging fail the first 3-6 times I try plugging my car in and then being billed something stupid like $0.75/kwH from “Joe’s charger” because I’m not a “member” who wants to pay $20/month.

Oh man, there's an IONNA in Houston! Today I learned, may go check it out tomorrow.

@Ford Motor Company - any updates on enabling Plug & Charge on networks other than Tesla and Electrify America? The ability to enable from FordPass is a nice stop-gap, but shouldn't be the end-state/solution.

1) None, other than they're not 120kW chargers.

2) I'm confused. Open FordPass (or Public Charging) in vehicle, no new app required. There is zero difference in billing when using EA or Tesla with Plug and Charge versus FordPass activation or Public Charging activation

Why aren't there more P&C locations? Complying with the technical requirements clearly. Using FordPass or Public Charging, the "Ok to charge, we're paying the bill" is sent by Ford to the network, who then turns on the charger, and bills Ford. P&C requires the vehicle's info to be sent by the charger, to its network, to Ford, to approve and then reply back, ...

I’ve tried that - at EVgo chargers. Doesn’t matter how I try to start charging (in vehicle, via FordPass, credit card swipe, vendor app). It usually won’t work the first several times. About the only way I can eventually get it to work is via the stupid vendor app. Just solve plug and charge.

I don't DCFC much, but as long as FordPass or the Sync Public Charging app can successfully start a DCFC session, and my Blue Oval account successfully handles the transaction, then Plug & Charge just isn't that big of a deal for me.

My truck dealership is just a few blocks from the new Ionna chargers in Houston. But I rarely go to Houston and I would likely be in one of the trucks if I was heading to Tommie Vaughn Ford. But if I do find myself in the area in the Mach-E, I'll give them a whirl and see if FordPass does it's magic. It works perfectly at the one Shell Charge I tried in Manvel Texas.

Ya know, with EVGo, you can set up their own version of Plug and Charge called Autocharge IIRC. Works great.

The benefit of being a Mustang Mach-E owner is BlueOval Charge Network - so you can use all 14 networks with one app without having to download any apps, enter a credit card, any of that hassle.
