I have similar issues.
My workaround:
1- Once the call starts, press on the "transfer to phone" button on the screen to transfer the call to cellphone.
2- Click it again to transfer it back to the car.

This solves the issue to me every time.

Thank you I will try this.

How often would you say this occurs? It happens on all my calls at this point, I cannot use bluetooth at all.
I don’t drive the car as much or make & receive as many calls as my wife. But she confirms my impression: it happens every time on the first call. The audio is badly distorted. Ending and re-establishing the call seems to reliably fix it.

Shouldn’t be too hard for Ford engineers to reproduce and debug.

I am getting the same issue. At times, I connect my Apple phone via Carplay and make or receive a call, it sounds fine. Other times, it sounds as if the caller is distant and slightly muted. I have to turn the volume almost all the way up. I can switch to speaker mode on the phone or use my bluetooth earbud, and it is ok.

If others have had this issue and can provide a fix or troubleshooting tips, I too would be grateful. I have not had the time to sit and troubleshoot this issue.
Hi William. If you would like us to look into this concern for you, please feel free to send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info.

I reported this same problem to Ford in August. They asked me to DM them, which I did, and then they told me they closed the case and to take my car to my dealer. I have an iPhone, but do not use CarPlay. It happens every time I make a call or I answer a call. They can hear me just fine, but I can't hear them. It is all garbled. I call them right back and it's all good. I just got an iPhone 15 Pro, hoped it would fix the problem, but it hasn't. Come on Ford!!!

Interesting to read replies to this thread.
My Job 1 MachE had NO garbling issues at all for the first year or so of ownership. Once the crummy ‘new icon’ UI on the big screen update occurred, I began to have these garbling issues both making and receiving calls. Same Iphone I’ve always had since I purchased the car. I have a sort of ongoing open case with local Ford dealer and Ford Corporate who say they need to speak with “Ford Engineering” to try and fix. Had car in for service at least three times in last year or so, they seem to never be able to establish contact with the correct engineering person to correct the problem.
I guess I’m just destined to have to always ‘untether’ from Bluetooth to iPhone speaker, then re-connect to Bluetooth with each garbled call. Then it works perfectly. I’d say about 1 of 3 calls are flawed.
Very frustrating and not up to par with the expected tech quality of the car.

Based on these comments, it seems like it is a widespread issue with no current fix. I was hoping to use information I learned when I posted this thread to go to the dealer and request they do X or look at service bulletin Y, but it doesn't seem like there is any purpose in going to the dealer at this time since no one is saying there is some module they can replace or specific software update they can implement.

Are you saying that hitting Bluetooth on and off on your iPhone during the call fixes the issue for that call by disconnecting and reconnecting your phone to the Mach-E while the call stays live? If so, that at least may be a less cumbersome workaround than hanging up and calling again, particularly if it isn't a family member/friend.

Come on Ford, you need to get this fixed. I have similar problems with both my Wife's GTPE and my F150 Lightning.
If you review all of the workarounds that the above MME owners are using, most require the driver to take their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel.
Because of this, someone's going to have an accident, maybe get hurt, maybe get killed, and absolutely Ford gets sued.
Has anyone reported this to NHTSA?

Correct. This seems to fix it, at least for me.
My big issue with this is that it forces me to reach down to my phone (as I leave mine on the charging mat) touch the iPhone screen to wake it, hold my phone to disconnect Bluetooth and then reconnect Bluetooth.
Totally defeats the purpose of “hands-free calling“.
And yes ! I am aware I should just be driving for the naysayers, but the tech is the issue. If it worked as it did the first year and a half of ownership, I’d have little to complain about.…other than wonky PaaK and cheap A$$ dash vents, but that’s another story.

Shocking...but could it be??? I had a full day of 'normal' calls in/out....I am up to 6.4....did they sneak in the fix?

I agree. My calls have been good for the last day or so. Haven't gotten any "announced" updates. I'm still on 5.1.1.

Still have this issue. However, if you switch into and out of privacy mode the issue resolves 100% of the time.
