"Why is the car in the middle always now?"
"I don't know let me call design"
"Design responded 3 weeks ago, they didn't ask for it, let me check with the devs"
"I'm still working on finding the manager of the dev group that handles UI now"
"That manager left, Billy was filling in while they try to find another manager"
"Billy quit showing up to work"
"We hired a new manager, they're getting up to speed"
"Oh yeah the car in the middle thing, let me ask him"
"No I havn't heard back from the new manager, let me check again"
"He's still waiting on a laptop and his permissions to get ok'd"
"Oh yeah maybe he could just ask around"
"He's got no idea who runs the UI team"
"Oddly I guess he never knew he runs the UI team"
"He's reaching out to the team"
"UI didn't do it"
"Yeah lets see if someone can look at SVN"
"Oh here it is, Ravi committed 'I have no idea why 400 pixel clear gif is here'"
"Lets get Ravi to put back the clear thing"
"Ravi quit right after that commit"
"Ok so where's the gif?"
"Oh that was on Ravi's laptop we just imaged to give the new manager"
"Ok I'll get a story on the back log to make another 200 pixel clear jpg"
"They should be able to get to this in Q4"
"Yep they got the clear bmp thing all figured out, pushing QA next week"
"Oh they did it wrong, going to make another, this time a gif"
"Yep, next week testing for sure"
"Oh QA is out for some kind of holiday. I don't know what it is, just something about 2 weeks."
"Yep QA will look at it this week"
"They said the car is now on the left. Close enough yeah?"
"Why is the car on the left? Isn't that what you wanted? What you mean it was always on the right? The new cars always had it in the middle. Should it' be in the middle?"
"Yeah I'll call design again"
"Design said that's a function of the driver assistance. Who runs that team? Billy now, I see."
You may be very close here. Though I'd like to think the IPC is running NeXT OS and the graphics are blitted via Display PostScript. No GIFs.

I have already expressed my displeasure for a seemingly useless update. I feel better now and am moving on. To me, this new display is so peculiar that I wonder if I am missing something. Could this be a 'brick by brick' update where eventually this useless static image becomes dynamic with a representation of other vehicles around the Mach?

You should see how hard it is to just put a theme on this website, vs moving animations and functionality of the drivers screen. The complication is enormous if it wasn’t first built to be customizable.

One could hope.

But I do wonder if they did it to try and encourage people to use BlueCruise more. I would turn on lane assist and occasionally BlueCruise from time to time, but I didn't leave them permanently on. Part of it was that I didn't have a use for them all of the time, and part of it was because of the change in the dash. It just seemed pointless to have something on there other than the speed if the features weren't in use. Similarly, I really don't like the Engage dash; I usually drive in Unbridled, and didn't mind Whisper either (which has a similar dash), but Engage for some reason was unique compared with the other two. Even though it's the drive mode I would probably share the most with Unbridled, I never used it because of the dash display.

That said, in the week or so with this new dash display I have not changed my habits. I still use Unbridled, and I still toggle lane assist on and off. I admit I'd be slightly embarrassed to drive friends and colleagues since the new update - the car wowed people previously, but now the dash just looks kind of weird. It's not to say that the Unbridled animation wasn't superfluous, and that there wasn't plenty of wasted space, but at least there was something. An image of the car... I mean c'mon, make it the Mustang logo and that might have gone over slightly better (although it would still seem pretty silly).

Why can't they just make the interface customizable to the drivers liking. Move any icon wherever you want.
I can understand it not being infinitely customizable, as it would require more than a trivial amount of software and UI to make it work. But I could see (and I think many would prefer) a number of pre-configured options to choose from. Ie., speedometer centered, lane centering car moved off to the side (I would vote for that), old behavior where speedometer is centered when the lane centering is turned off, etc.

What is puzzling is that there are a number of features that I can toggle on and off on my 2012(!) F-150 that I can't on my Mach E (auto door locks, for example). Now, you can go into ForScan to get some of them back, but it is puzzling that Ford chose to hide/disable these in the Mach E by default. Seems like they have this "we know better than you" mentality and would rather just take options away than giving owners the option to configure the vehicle as they please, within reason, of course.

I'm hopeful that the speedometer will re-appear back to the middle of drivers screen. I say this primarily because of this photo that was published for the yet-to-be-released 2024 Mach-E Rally.

This photo highlights the return of the center MPH, new top row icons on the center screen and a "Performance Upgrade Enabled" feature.

Also, based on these pictures. The Rally trim will NOT come with bluecruise

I just got the update and am also frustrated with them moving the speed from the center of the display. Losing the dynamic background is disappointing but having the speed off center is maddening.

Why is putting all the speed related things always in the same place a bad thing, I'm so confused by this criticism it's such a marked improvement in usability. I can literally get all relevant driving information without taking my eyes off the road, it's great. I just wish it had time and temperature (although I do realize there is the cold flag). I am a little annoyed at the energy bar gatekeeping though, that's just silly.

My main criticism - and not to beat a dead horse - is that the highest profile location, the center of the display, contains ZERO information, most of the time. The speedometer - arguably the most important piece of information on the display is now in a location that can be obscured by the steering wheel or your hands - not good. Just bad design and a bad decision that was not thought through by the design team at Ford. For the love of God, change it back!

Flip the car icon and speed and I'd be happy. I don't like my speed being obscured.

Agreed. This would be a huge improvement over 6.8 but the best option is still to give the driver options. Drivers running 6.7 and below have multiple display/configuration options so why break precedent and take it away?

But the ACC speed, speedometer and last speed sign are now literally adjacent. Instead in the center of the screen is weather or not your tailgating or if you've departed a lane which in any given second is more important than your speed.

While I appreciate the zen of the center speedometer everyone is objectively wrong about this and is literally why Ford changed it because it's better (safer*), lol.
