I'm surprised by the number of bugs with the various Mach-e systems. The car driving part works well and I love driving the car but the car software and app are not good. I hate to just have a whining post but this morning was exceptionally bad:
  • Wake-up this morning to check the charging. The charging target level cannot be adjusted. Discover there is a new app version. Update but still the same problem.
  • Go outside in the cold adjust in car. PAAK lets me in the car but it won't let me start the car. I need to enter the start code to adjust.
  • Later I go to a fast charger. Charging starts. The app charge information just says Staring charger with no details of the % charge, rate, etc. It is stuck but the car display shows % is increasing. Restart the app. Same. Restart my phone. Same.
  • App error message "Temporarily unavailable. Sorry we are having system problems..."
It really complicates life when there are so many bugs with the various electronics in life and the Mach-e adds a lot. I know many have no trouble with their Mach-E's but many do. At this point it just seems normal to have so many bugs and poor quality control.

No expert here but I would guess everything you have mentioned is tied to a server issue. Not excusing the issue but based on what I have read it happens from time to time. Personally I never went with PAAK and am fine with the fob and minimal app usage.

I blame Cloud Computing Services. Over the past couple of weeks I've had issues with just about everything related to cloud services. My banking app (web portal also). Alaska Airlines. Roland Cloud. Tesla app, LaCrosse app, Ford app, Volvo app, etc. etc.

Too much dependency on the Cloud, IMO.

I was in IT/networking from about 1996 until 2016. I saw this coming and I still rail against it.

One of the things that recent problems on AWS (Amazon Web Services) shows is how dependent a lot of services are on a very few major service providers.

And there are so many possible failure points. Ford uses AT&T for the network. And Co-Pilot says this on the backend services they use:

Note I'm in San Jose, and I'm able to adjust my charge setting, so most likely you can too now. If that is the case, then I think everyone posting here is spot on as far as what the problem was.

Out of curiousity, where was your phone? I see this occasionally when my phone is in my left pocket (nearest the door). Moving it closer to the center of the car usually resolves the issue.

I agree- this is an app, cloud, server issue. Our society is precariously balanced on a tower of 1s and 0s.

It sounds like your car was having a bad day, perhaps related to cloud-service issues or the new app.

Whenever things like this are happening I just give it a day to see if the gremlins disappear. They usually do.

Sounds like a lot of people don’t need a new car they need a new life.

It is almost like moving back to a central computer with terminals ala the '60's. Except the connection is much less robust than wiring.

It can easily take up to five years to get software in shape so it remains invisible, and you just drive the car. That puts my expectations mid next year.
