Bummer...another Mach-E bites the dust...

My poor 21 Premium with 28,000 miles was legally parked on a city street when it was sideswiped bumper to bumper by a kid driving on the wrong side of the road at 10 pm on a Saturday night. State Farm declared it a total loss and offered an ACV of $29,000 which I took. (I paid $30,000 for the car used last year.) Looked at used EVs that are out there (who would buy new when they depreciate so fast?) and I've decided to stick with a Mach-E.

So I'm looking at either a 21 or 22 Mach E GT-PE which I couldn't afford last time I was looking but I can now. What would the forum board members recommend? Both have the same equipment and free of defects, I just can't remember if 1 year or the other were more susceptible to things going wrong. My 21 Premium was error free.

Very sorry about your car, but glad no one was hurt and your loss is minimal.

An early 2022 wasn’t de-contented as much as later ones, so that’s what I’d look for. It still has kick to open for the lift gate (though you may Need to activate it using FORScan) and Active Park Assist.

Later 2022 GTPEs like mine will have the newer, more robust high-voltage contactors. Older ones may not, so you’ll need to check whether they’ve been retrofitted.

The current HVBJB wasn’t introduced until mid-November of 2023 so no 2022 will have the current HVBJB unless it blew its HVBJB out after that time, so I wouldn’t worry about that. Just get the service record of the specific 2021 or 2022 that you are looking at and that will tell you.

I loved my 2021 GT-PE. The main reason I switched to a 2024 GT was the 5-second limiter that Ford foisted upon us. The 2024 also has 360 cameras, which you could not get on a 2021 GT-PE without being forced into a glass roof. In 2022, the glass roof became a standard option on the GT-PE. The glass roof was finally decontented from the GT in 2024 and again became an option.

A kid in Glenview crashed his bike into my 22 premium and damaged the fender. Everybody bitches about Chicago, but the knuckleheads are in the suburbs.

Sorry to hear about your car and hope you’ll find one that you like. The GTPE is the way to go and I highly recommend it.

My 21 Mach e GTPE has been a wonderful experience. The only problem I have had was the contactor failure after about 1.5 years. It was replaced in 2 days and I have never had another problem. I did the 12V replacement and brake flush about six months ago and everything is great. I will keep it about two more years or until the replacement is available.

Sorry to hear about the Total Loss!!! Out of curiosity did you consider any other EVs?

I bought and paid MSRP (minus the $7500 Fed Gov tax incentive) in July 2021, so I will probably keep her for a few more years. But I always find my self wondering if I were in your scenario what EV would I get next??? (ps. I think Ford has been very good to us and would probably put them in the pole position to start the search). But lots more options now........Lyriq, Ionic 5, EV6, Blazer, Equinox, Optiq, used (Lucid/Rivian) and of course the Tappole look alike Model 3/Y.

Anyway, happy hunting a new MME!!!
