Just noticed that Fordpass had automatic updates toggled off so attempted to turn on but just resets to off. Went to MME controls and attempted to see what the status of the software updates were but that just hangs forever. I'm guessing these issues are related and went thru previous issues with both issues but found nothing that helped mitigate either. Thoughts are welcome at this point. As usual, thanks in advance.

It's a known issue after a recent GWM update. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12v battery in the frunk for 20 minutes. Once you reconnect it, check for updates again and it should make it past the spinning pinwheel in the screen where you check for updates.

Did not see that, thanks. Went thru pulling 7.5A fuse found in one of the issues but that didn't do anything.

I would recommend the full battery disconnect and not just the fuse pull.

Full disconnect did the trick. Thanks for making me smarter at least for a moment. As much as AI can do, there are some issues that need a human to intervene. Appreciate you being that human for me today!

How long did it take you to take off the frunk panels and get to the battery cable?

It takes less than one minute to remove the two panels to get to the negative terminal. It takes 2 1/2 minutes to remove all the panels and the frunk tub on a ‘21-‘23 and just under 2 minutes for ‘24. I’ve not done a ‘25 tub removal yet.

Thanks. That sounds simple than I thought.

Let me start with I was stupid - I know that, but if others want to reinforce it, that's fine. I called my dealer's service folks on this exact issue to double-check the process. They convinced me that I should just let them handle it under warranty. They've had my Mach-E since yesterday (Thursday), and will keep it over the weekend because they can't solve the problem. Neither can they update the SW at all, getting a failure sometime during the course of the process. They've already had some exchanges with Ford engineering, and sent more data late today for Ford to respond to on Monday. In that you said this is a known issue, is there a Ford Issue Number of some sort that would point the dealer and/or Ford engineering to the solution? Thanks for your help.

It's a known issue on the forums. Countless people have gotten past the spinning pinwheel screen after a battery disconnect. I don't know if the dealers know about it because I've never seen a bulletin sent to then by Ford advising them to try a battery disconnect first before going ham on a vehicle.

If the GWM is hung up in a funky state, then that would explain why the updates aren't going through when they try to do them. It's very easy to try this fix and harmless if it doesn't work, so there's nothing to lose but about a total of 30 minutes worth of time to try it.

Thank you - very clear. If they don't come back to me with "fixed" tomorrow, I'll press them to use this approach - maybe they'll learn something useful at Ford Engineering.

I had this same problem with my 2023 Mach-E Premium eAWD, and haven't received a software update since November 14, 2024. I shared this fix with my dealer when I took my car in for service back in April, but I think they ignored the suggestion and supposedly did manual updates via USB drive. I write 'supposedly' because the software version showing on the in-car display and in the App never changed from November 14, 2024. I finally got around to trying this fix myself and it worked! The 'automatic updates' toggle switch is finally enabled.
