Attempted to charge at level 2 after arriving at home after a short trip around town. Charger showed blue light. Car would not start charging. Changed to level 1 and all was OK. After over night charge with 10% gain and 30 miles range improvement, reconnected to level 2 and all was good. Does the car have some type of thermal protection for battery that prevents the 240 V charging if exceeded? Typical summer day in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Phoenix area guys can tell you all about the thermal problems during the summer. They'll chime in I'm sure.

Were you using the included mobile charger? Is there a charge time window set in the car or FordPass? And finally, how warm was it in the greater Memphis area and your garage?

It has been hot where I live. It is 99 F today. When I L2 charged my MME the cooling fans turned on full blast.

Are you using the included charger or a dedicaated 240 V EVSE?

I bought a 40 amp level 2 charger after having a 50 amp breaker and NEMA 14-50 outlet put in just to get a little faster charging than the 30 amp that Ford supplies. The Ford charger works great. The other one pops the breaker after charging for about 10-15 mins. New house plenty of power so that's not the problem. Could it be a bad charger?

The car could throttle your level 2 charge rate due to heat concerns. In theory.

I've never observed this on my car. The car has so much going on to keep the electronics cooled down that it's unlikely to need to do this. (Thanks to fans, radiator, coolant pumps, air conditioning, etc.)

Much more likely is your EVSE will detect an overheat situation in itself or its own cabling, and it will slow down or stop charging. But if this is what is happening, you'll know because additional lights will appear beside your blue indicator on the mobile charger.

Check the AMP settings in the EVSE. It might be set to 50A. It is is the MME will try to draw 48A and it will overheat the 50 A breaker. Make sure the EVSE is set to 40A.

What type of charger is it? I had a defective Grizzly that the company replaced under warranty. Different symptoms, it would fault out and not charge but never popped my breaker.

What gauge wire was put in with the circuit? Also could be a loose lug or connection causing heating and the breaker to trip or just a defective breaker. You may need to call an electrician.

Yes, using the included Ford charger, no, I do not have a scheduled charging time as I have solar power and will charge mostly during the day, temperature in Memphis is 95 degrees and garage is about the same.

Included charger. Fans did not start. Blue circular lights turned white for a few seconds then went out. Then nothing happened.

Next day the L2 system worked. Don't think the charged is bad.

Ok call me stupid but the EVSE setting is located where? Obviously not on the charger. Only had the car a week so it family with everything yet.

Will do. However, the breaker did not trip. Blue light on charger remained on during this episode.

I'll call the electrician that installed it tomorrow.

Check the 240V adapter and try reseating it to the Ford charger. Sometimes it will lokk like it is connected and give a blue light but won't actually be touching all the contacts in the connector.

Using included charger you had to swap the AC connector. Make sure it is properly seated.
