This is the future of automobiles.

"Services" are/may never be permanent, and can be removed at anytime.
If the service is software/network related, they cannot be relied upon for the life of the vehicle.

At some point down the road there will probably be a landmark lawsuit regarding "lifetime of the vehicle and how long a "service" can be expected to be operational to a consumer.

Hopefully the EU gets involved and forces something on behalf of the consumer, because the US&A is very anti-consumer, and pro corporation.

Ford heard the complaints on this one and responded:

Hello Everyone,

We have heard the community’s feedback and thank you for raising that the sunset of the Charge Assist App has impacted the charging experience in some scenarios. The addition of Tesla Superchargers to Ford’s connected navigation has been prioritized. We are also currently working to deliver improvements to battery preconditioning across several supported charge finding and navigation options.

We will continue to provide you with updates as more information becomes available. Please reach out if you have questions, concerns, or feedback.

I just don’t understand… did nobody that works on the Mach-E use the Public Charging app? Every single time I charged in public I used it. It gave the charging speed of each charger (not just a blanket class), which ones were being used, if any were unavailable, being able to start the charging from the app, AND it will give you info from the charger like charging rate, time to 80%, etc.

Unless I’m missing something big, the navigation app (that we pay for) does none of this and makes it significantly worse to charge the car in public.

This speaks volumes. Two years after Ford’s announcement, and sixteen months after the network opening up. ?

My theory is almost everyone used the Ford App on their phone rather than the Public Charging App in their car.

You’re probably right. I just can’t believe the expectation is to use your phone while you’re driving instead of the gigantic screen in the car with an app that is already fully developed and working.

Data point. My wife and I never used it on our phone, and both only used it in car.

Create a poll here to ask where people used it, this Forum could be a small sample to show otherwise.

For me, I purposely tried to use the Public Charging app because I wanted a system that didn't require my phone. But it didn't work out well.

For finding chargers, unless I was looking for Tesla Superchargers, I preferred using the built in Connected Navigation over the Public Charging app. (For trip planning outside of the car I use ABRP and Plugshare, and I wish I could still use the Ford App trip planning tool RIP.)

For starting charging, I'm not sure I ever successfully used the Public Charging App. I really wanted to, but there was some billing problem. More importantly:
* At Flo chargers I use my flow RFID card.
* At Electrify Canada chargers, they aren't in the Ford Network.
* At Tesla Chargers, I used the Tesla app to get my membership discount, or I would just use PlugNCharge.

There were a few other In-Network chargers where I've been able to use the Ford App on the phone, and I'd definitely rather use the big screen in the car. But, it didn't work once when I remember trying it, and between Flo, PlugNCharge, and out-of-network chargers, it's sadly not that frequent for me.

Yeah, same here. Never once used it on my phone when the app was there. Just charged my car at a charger that wasn’t plug & charge and it’s just a much worse experience then when I could do it from the car.
