I am just catching up on this topic and I am still not sure I understand what has happened.
i bought my 2021 a few months ago. I was amazed that finding a public charger while on the road was so easy (with the public charging app) and I presume that if you selected a charger and sent it to the native nav app then the car would precondition.
Then a couple of weeks ago (?) I must have got an over the air update and the public charging app stopped working. It is beyond my comprehension why Ford would take something that was working just fine and break it.
i have plenty of other ways to find chargers; ABRP, Plugshare, Google Maps, etc, but forcing us to use our phone to find a charger while driving is just stupid.

I have an iPhone. Do I understand it correctly that there is no way to have the car precondition while navigating to a charger?

As others have mentioned, it seems the right thing for them to do is to make the Ford Pass app available through CarPlay or Android Auto. Though I guess I won’t hold my breath on that one.

You can use the built in navigation app to find chargers, and pre-condition. But, it doesn't work for Tesla Superchargers. Also, you cannot pay for charging using the built-in navigation app, so if your phone is dead or missing, or you don't have cellular service, you won't be able to activate the charger unless it has Plug-N-Charge or a credit-card-reader. Even if the charger is in the Ford Network, there's no way to activate it from the car anymore.

There are no filters now, and the map is not up to date. Pre conditioning is quite difficult now

I knew something like this might happen and turned off auto updates - we could see how new updates pan out before deciding to apply them - but in a fit of exuberant optimism I turned it back on

You also now have to pay for the Ford Connected Navigation. The fact that @Ford Motor Company now charges for software that used to be free but which doesn't work for half the charging stations in the country shows that Ford no is longer trying to sell the public on EVs. Instead, they are nickel and diming to get a small amount of income from those of us who bought their early EVs. I fear Ford is souring those customers who bought in early and will look to other brands when they trade.

You and me may be very annoyed that the MachE no longer has a built-in system to navigate the the best chargers (superchargers) nor to activate chargers that are in the Ford Network. But I think most people were using their phone to activate Ford Network chargers and most people use their phone (ABRP, Apple Maps, or Google Maps) to navigate to chargers. So, I think most people actually don’t care about this in-vehicle built-in capability. But my hope is that enough of us care (my guess is 15% of owners) that Ford decides it’s a good idea to bring back those functionalities. Plus, conceptually, a car should be operable without using one’s phone.

Theres also the issue that being able to send a trip from my phone to the car’s navigation was a critical selling feature for me. Using ABRP to save a trip late at night while lying in my hotel room is the best substitute I’ve found, but it’s not as good.

Wow. And I thought you were a kool-aid drinker.

Totally agree.

I'm one of the few (15%?) who rely almost exclusively on the built-in navigation on trips, but I've never relied on it to add chargers to my route. I've always planned my stops prior to the trip using ABRP and Plugshare and manually enter the stops in the navi. But I want it to do the preconditioning for me, and without it knowing about the Tesla network... it's stupid to also have to enter nearby "bogey" EA/Chargepoint/EVGo chargers to fool it.

I did use Android Auto for a trip this year, but I personally didn't like it as much. It just made my Pixel 7 heat up in addition to draining the battery. But I understand others like it better.

The other problem is that we CarPlay users only had one way to precondition the car EV route to a DCFC and that’s the Ford Connected Navigation.

Were you wirelessly charging or plugged in? For long trips with GPS active, there's a pretty big draw on the battery, so I'd recommend plugging the phone in then. Wireless, I'd have a slight drain on the battery, but wired adds charge no problem and the phone stays much cooler.

It looks like 2024 Lightnings (and probably 2025s) are finally starting to get Tesla Superchargers in Ford Connected Navigation (at least for some folks in EAP):

My concern is the news. The EAP part just means this is an early stage of the rollout.

As far as #FightClubDoesNotTalkAboutFightClub is concerned, that’s between Ford and Jace.

Before the public charging app was turned off I used it on trips to see realtime station availability (especially for Tesla v3 because I wanted to see how many spots were open since we need to take two spots). I just saw that Google maps now shows Tesla availability (and EA also just recently). So that's helpful for AA users.
