2024 Mach E Premium, LFP battery.

I received the free adapter many months ago but have never used it. Stopped by a Tesla charging location that Plugshare says is open to other makes and even had a review from a Hyundia driver. A Tesla owner tried to help me and said he has seen other makes charging there. Could not get it to start. After 30 seconds, the five circle lights flashed red - error. Electrify America and Ford stations usually start on their own, so plug and charge must be enabled/working. Do I need to download the Tesla app? What am I doing wrong or not doing?

Should work without the Tesla app. Double check that Plug & Charge is still enabled in FordPass/Energy/Access&Permissions.

Do you have Plug & Charge enabled? If not, you'll need to use the Tesla app and set up an account. There was also an OTA update needed to enable Tesla, but if you have a 2024 model you might have that when you purchased it.

Just checked, plug and charge was/is enabled. And, I just received the latest download a couple days ago. Plug and charge works with EA and Ford chargers. Do I need to do anything on the in-car screen? Pick the location/charger? I was short on time, perhaps should have tried a different charger at that location?

It should just work after plugging in without doing anything else. I would try another location known to work with non-Teslas to make sure it works before you may need to rely on it on a trip.

yes, you could have tried a different charging station. Many others and I have used a Tesla SC charger with the adapter and Plug and Charge without issues.

It is possible for a Tesla charger to be down, I guess that would show in Ford Pass…shows in the Tesla app for sure.

I’ve only had this problem the other way around, Tesla app wouldn’t activate but plug and charge worked.

For me, Plug and Charge wasn't enough.

It didn't work until I downloaded the Tesla app and added my credit card to it. In fact, it didn't even immediately work with that. It took that and about 5 minutes. I had downloaded the Tesla app after Plug and Charge failed (same red ring). But then it kept telling me that there were no chargers in the area (sitting right in front of the charger). About 5 minutes later it started reporting that the SC were there.

Since then, I have used both Plug and Charge and the Tesla app. Not sure what the connection is between the two, just telling what happened to me.

Zero issues using Tesla SC, but if Plug n Charge doesn't work first, then open the Tesla app and start it. I have once pulled up to an SC on a road trip at a location we didn't plan for, it had food the family wanted, and I tried it, and it was the same as you discribe. I opened the Tesla app, and the site didn't support non-Teslas. Never checked Plugshare, but went to the next exit and charged at a different brand. The dead giveaway was that it had parking stop blocks, and those aren't present in the location that supports non-Teslas 100% of the time.

Ooops. my bad.

In looking at Plugshare again, there are two locations in Fort Wayne, Indiana: north and southwest. I think I confused the two. The north one I went to was 150 kW which I believe is the older non-compatible chargers. It did NOT say "open to others". The southwest one did state "open to others" on Plugshare. I thought it was the other way around. Next time in town I'll give the other location a try. This tech stuff is confusing to this old guy. Thanks, all.

I have had Plug & Charge fail to work at one Tesla site, on the same day that it worked at another site. I used the Tesla app and it worked fine. I no longer use P&C at Tesla or EA, since I have memberships for both.

Yeah, the 150KW Tesla stations are the older type. They can't work with non-Teslas. 🤔🐩

I could never get P&C working with Tesla. Ended up downloading the Tesla app and setting up an account (fun to do in middle of f'in nowhere, Texas) and have never had an issue starting it from the Tesla app.
