Hi. I've owned a Mach E AWD for almost a month. I love the car, but the charging capacity is not what was advertised. This vehicle is supposed to be fully charged at 290 miles. The closest I came to fully charging was 96% at 220 miles. This is not even close. HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILIAR EXPERIENCE? I don't think the car is worth what I'm paying monthly for this small of a range and I do not have a charge station at home.

Thank you for your input.

Anyone else? Yes, there are dozens and dozens of posts like yours. People don't understand the difference between EPA estimates and real world, or the impact of cold temperatures.

Reset your EV driving history and you will see a number that makes you happy, until the car adjusts to your driving and the current weather and drops back down. Then realize had you done more research you either wouldn't have purchased an EV or you wouldn't be unhappy.

It’s the age-old ICE fuel economy ratings the motor trade have been allowed to lie about now perpetuated and transferred to EV range specifications where, for comparative purposes only, instead of using realistic means of arriving at such ratings the motor trade were always allowed to use unrealistic test standards to arrive at unachievable MPG and now range ratings.

Listen to what we’re told out EVs “could” achieve, knock of 50 miles for a true realistic summer range and another 70 for a winter range is what we have to settle for!

I understand if I drive faster or have the air on it'll suck the charge out faster. What I'm saying is when you charge your car you should get pretty close to full charging capacity especially when it's brand new. I've heard the battery range decreases over time. I don't think I missed anything unless the dealer misinformed me.

Thanks for your feedback.

You have missed that the range shown is a PROJECTED RANGE BASED ON YOUR DRIVING HISTORY AND CURRENT WEATHER CONDITIONS.

Reset the EV driving history and you'll be happy for a day or two.

When your gas vehicle fills the tank, does the projected range it shows match your EPA number times the number of gallons in the tank? No...

If you charge fully, and if wind, weather, and temperature are within a range, and if you drive at a pre-determined pace, and if you said your prayers last night and if you ate all your vegetables, then there's a better than even chance that the range displayed is going to be close to what the advertised range is.

However, if it's cold, or hot, or you don't like broccoli, or it's Tuesday, then your range will be somewhat lower. Especially if it's cold. Or if you drive uphill. Or fast. Or at a steady speed.

Also, get a home charger. You'll reduce range anxiety to the point that you'll forget on occasion to even look at your SoC because you've made the same trip 474 times, and the 475th trip won't be any different.

which battery? 290 is extended range, 220-ish is standard range.

Even my salesperson said you’ll get more likely 200-210.

Unnecessarily snarky, Rick. There are a lot of things to learn for new EV owners. A big mindset adjustment as well.

As others have said, the car tries to predict your range based on your driving characteristics. Range is affected pretty substantially by cold weather (the colder it is the bigger the impact on range.) Same with speed - driving 80 mph on highways uses much more energy than driving 60mph. Elevation changes matter as well.

I see you're in California. For example, driving from the Bay Area to Tahoe (elevation increase of over 6k feet) will use much more battery than the reverse trip.

If you have the ability to add home charging I would recommend that so that you can keep the car topped up while you're home and not using it.

You are getting full capacity. But battery capacity is measured in kWh, not miles. Just like gas tank capacity is measured in gallons. How far you can go on those kWh (or gallons) depends on a lot of factors and no two trips will be the same. That's why your car just has to guess on the range at any given time. The EPA rated range is calculated with an average speed of something like 45 mph. If you regularly drive faster than that, you likely won't get the EPA rated range.

I appreciate all your comments. I still don’t think I understand. If you fill up a tank of gas, you’re gonna start with a 500 mile range. Obviously if you drive faster or drive a pill or drive in certain conditions, you’ll use the gas faster. My point is when you fill up you’ll get that 500 mile range with an EV wouldn’t I get the same 290 mile range on a full charge? Obviously that might be 220 to 250 if I drive faster or the conditions are harsh.

The comment that makes the most sense is the one about the standard versus the extended range. I bought an extended range, but it sounds like it might be a standard range. I will have to talk to the dealership more because it was not too clear. I don’t see how they can messed up the battery.
