A carwash recently removed the charing door closure pin from the charge port door on my 2024 Premium. Some searching lead me to the thread below.

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/charging-port-door-lock-fell-off.12735/page-2#post-371232

The local Ford dealership wanted $200 to diagnose the problem then indicated that the last charge door repair they quoted was $500 where the diagnostic fee was not included in the total cost, nor was it refundable, therefore the total repair would be somewhere around $700. They said it might be covered under warranty but would make no promises.

The replacement I bought can be found here: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/lock-pin/51177451148/

All in, the repair cost me about $30 and took about three (3) minutes.

This is the kind of stuff that is really ridiculous. Ford knows this exists, they know they can provide a part to replace it for cheap, and they don't, despite years of these posts. @Ford Motor Company

That site says those pins are for BMWs. Did it fit and twist in and lock properly? My charging door pin doesn’t have the rubber anymore, but I do want to replace the whole thing because sometimes it falls out.

Yes, it's a BMW part that Mach-E and other EV owners have been using for years to replace theirs when it falls out. That thread he linked to tells you that.

Thanks yeah clicked the link after I wrote the post. Probably should’ve done it the other way around. Hehe.

Did the Ford dealership actually see your car? Or are did they provide an "over the phone" ballpark estimate?

@Schmedlack
The service advisor looked at it, said he would need a technician to diagnose the problem, and that the diagnostic fee was a non-refundable $200.

Find a different dealer for future problems. This one is trying to run up your bill because that's all direct revenue to them. Warranty work is far less lucrative.

I hope you go back to that dealer and show them that you fixed it yourself for $30. What they did was outrageous!

And they wonder why people have a mistrust of dealers...

Is it your belief that showing a thief that it's wrong to steal will convince him it's wrong to steal?

For some, it might...

However, in this case I would want to show them that at least some people are wise to their game.

Sadly i noticed the other MME in the parking lot at work has the charge door taped closed. I'll probably print this URL out and leave it on the windshield for them

Most of the Dealers I've been to don't seem to care about you or your car. I doubt that they would pay much attention to you or your repair when pointed out. They probably wouldn't even remember what your issue was.

Your DIY solution was the right way to go. Don't waste your time complaining.
