Hello All,

21’ Select
I decided to run an errand while on my lunch break today. The destination is about 1/2 mile away. On my way back I noticed my kWh was very low…around 1.8 kWh. Mind you I was driving about 35 mph start/stop. I clicked the kWh average tab and it said the battery usage for climate control was 60%, however I hadn’t turned the heat on while driving! I am guessing the cold fried my cars brain, but has this happened to anyone else? Not using heat but kWh tab says you’re using lots of energy for climate control? Thanks as always everyone!

Agree, if you turn off HVAC and the battery is too cold, it will heat the battery.

Make sure you plug in when parked and/or use departure time preconditioning in the winter to make sure the battery stays warmed up.

Let's say you've set a departure time for 7AM so the battery and interior are warmed...but you actually leave much later, say noon. Does the system just shut off at 7:01 and the car is mostly cooled by the time you leave, or does it maintain the departure setting until used? I assume/expect the former but just confirming.
Apologies if you've already addressed this in your Cold Weather Strategies thread. I must reread that!

The system shuts off I think 15 minutes after departure time. It will cool over time. 5 hours later will be quite a bit of cooling as you can imagine.

It heats the battery+cabin and shuts off about 15 minutes after the departure time, but the battery stays warm for a number of hours (up to 10) afterwards. So that is a lot better than nothing. I did cover that and more in my strategy thread:

I was not able to plug my car in to charge or precondition at work. I figured my cars brain melted and showed climate control usage instead of exterior temp battery usage. I dont know what else it could be??? I wasn’t concerned about the amount of battery usage, but a tad concerned my dashboard was showing 60% of battery usage going toward climate control when I hadn’t even used climate control. I’ve had my Mach e for two years and don’t recall or remember noticing this previously.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback and trying to help me figure it out!

The battery usage graph is useless. Unless I want to do a lot of math. Heard computers are good at math. When I start not even 1% for driving. Drive an hour now more for driving. So is 60% good or bad? The farther I drive more and more goes towards driving. So really tells me nothing
