Some have reported that the keypad on the door works when the LVB fails, but it isn't lighted. So if you can see where the numbers are, and enter the correct code, it will allow you to open the door.

It sounds feasible, but I have not tested it so I cannot confirm if this is correct or not.
I've not heard this Mike. I will test it out today! I'm actually going to be replacing the battery in a '21 in a few hours (Eric's) along with other mods we are doing this weekend. Will get back to you.

Follow up.... just replaced the battery in a '21 Job 1 and the keypad is completely dead. Will not unlock the car when it is locked if the battery dies. ?

I have heard that too, so I tried hoping it’s the back up plan, BUT it didn’t work. With my battery negative cable disconnected from the strut tower, I entered the passcode under a template I made which marks where the numbers are, it didn’t unlock the door. Not till I reconnected could the door unlock.

It seems like it would be great if on the future Mach-E, there was also a capacitor used with the locking/unlocking receiver and mechanism, but perhaps that might not be feasible as requiring to much power.

Did mine after 3 years, it was affecting the ability to do updates because the 12V battery charge was lower. Since then, software was tweaked to be better at charging the 12V and there are more tools to monitor charge levels. Mine was fading after three years, so I'd recommend keeping an eye on it.
I suspect that cars built later and those updated with software that keeps the battery charged at a higher level will last longer. This design of battery does not tolerate sitting with a 50% charge.

I was only answering Walter's question if the doors could be opened (unlatched) with a dead LVB and yes they can as long as the car was unlocked.

My car spends more time at home in my garage than in public so I don't want the doors to automatically lock and I rarely lock them in public anyway. If I had a situation where the LVB went dead while the car was locked, I can use my little NOCO jump starter to power up and unlock the doors.

I keep my car at my work garage 4 days in the week. Now that I am coming to 3 years on this 12 V i should be cautious. And would be able to manually pop open the frunk. So I will leave the door unlock. I don't have to worry about it being unlocked. My work is gated and everyone has to badge in. Besides though, even if a random person in public was suppose to get in the car. They won't be able to steal the car They will ransack the car for any valuables of course. I don't have anything in the car they would want.

So the NOCO jump starter. Is that what you use to open the frunk when the 12V is dead and you did not leave the door unlocked?

I have a portable jump starter for a regular 12V battery. Can use that same one for the two little wires for the frunk to pop open?

A jump pack should work to pop the frunk. What won’t work is a battery charger.
