We have a 4 hr winter drive home in Milton the Mustang today. After a long fast charge session last night, something went wonky. I drove home after the fast charge, plugged into the trickle charge (120V) where we are staying, and when checking the app before bed it says “Charge Paused” along the bottom. When I click into the current charge session details for the app my car still thinks it is at a fast charge station. No refresh of information from the car still as of this morning (7 hours later).

I’ve restarted the app (multiple times).
From inside the car nothing appears wrong (it correctly shows as trickle charging)
When FordPass app shows on a map where it thinks Milton the Mustang is, he shows up 2.0 miles away… like he’s still at the fast charge location.

I’m concerned that my car’s modem maybe has stopped beaming out details. From the last week I found two threads (unresolved) about cars having stopped updating via FordPass. Maybe something is getting pushed out to my car and it’s impacting this? The timing with the closing of a fast charge session is curious.

I’d love any advise to help troubleshoot this. For fast charge sessions, is the modem needed to initiate communication with the charger? I hope my worst case scenario is just to use the 3rd party app associated with whichever charger we use so I can monitor progress while the family eats lunch.

Thanks!

Sounds like a backend FP server issue to me. Regardless the car's modem has nothing to do with charging (other than reporting information to you about it). Worst case is that Ford's servers don't answer EA's servers when you try to use plug-n-charge and you have to initiate the charge manually from the charger, but I doubt that will happen as those are likely a completely different set of servers. Milton may not want to talk to your phone, but he'll get you home.

Thank you @timbop - a FP server issue seems manageable!

In the course of troubleshooting with no success I unplugged the trickle charge…started the car…stopped the car…connected to WiFi…plugged the charger back in… checked the app between each iteration.
Fingers crossed ??

Try locking the doors from the app.

I've found when FP isn't updated with fresh info from the car, locking the doors causes a push to the car that wakes it up to provide fresh info back to Ford's server.

I had a similar issue in the past few days. I could not schedule a departure time on Saturday morning when I tried on Friday, from multiple devices. Yet FordPass was showing the current charge status. Could not unlock, lock, or remote start.

On Saturday, these functions worked fine, and I remote started before leaving.

I am of the opinion that FordPass' servers suck. They aren't close to reliable, and result in many issues.

Well we are safe and home. No issue with connecting to a fast charger…but still no connectivity to the car within the FordPass app :(

Maybe tomorrow. Or Tuesday.

Thanks all, will post if any action on my end resolves this…

Definitely a back-end server issue. I have owned my car a little over 2 weeks and I still can’t push my profile to the car. It gives me the same error every time. Setting up PaaK was. It a problem even though the stupid FordPass app tells me I still need to set up a PaaK. This tells me they are using different systems to manage PaaK from those sending information to the cars. ?‍♂?

Hi Alan, currently I am experiencing the same issue. Spoke to Ford Support. I have been down since 11/30. Ford says my modem receives request but replies with a Null. They daid wait a few days and they will call back. On Saturday they called after elevating the issue. Bottom line, problem with modem take to dealer. Nice that you guys apps started working again. Duke.

My modem stopped working today so no remote features. From the Connectivity Settings, I get nothing when I try to open the Connected Vehicle Features. It thinks for a few seconds then stays the same. This all worked yesterday, including remote start. I plugged in to charge today and the app wouldn't update. But the car is charging.

Maybe tomorrow...

I hope yours resolves soon @JeffGo ! We head back to South Dakota just after Christmas and I’m going to brave trying the same fast charger location where I last had contact before I lost the server connection…gotta see if it’s causal. But just like you’re describing, from inside the car everything kept working as normal.

The modem came back alive this evening. The app shows the charging details now. some of the calculations in the app are wacky and that’s on the server side (Alexa gets the same info without the FordPass app in the equation), but I’m pretty sure the car knows the right info. I’ll verify tomorrow.

Pretty sure this is it doing something for an update, I wish they would communicate all this stuff better.

I have a vague suspicion that the car might have been trying to use my home Wi-Fi, and then disconnected from the cell network. I open the garage door to pull out the charging cable, then I close the door (steel), and it pretty much kills the signal outside the house. OTA updates are few and far between, plus I seemed to get the last 3 just fine and nothing has changed. I might turn off the Wi-Fi connection in the car and if necessary, I can turn it back on when people report they are getting the next OTA update - I only got 1.7.1. on Nov 11, long after others.
