2022 Mach-E Select RWD, grabber blue

Earlier in October I ordered an Tesla Model 3.

Now Tesla had discontinued the Tesla Model 3 I ordered( limited range 151kms model ) and EV rebate no longer available on current version of Model 3.

Also lost the $250 order deposit unless order new version of Model 3.

Kind of depressed with all of this. Only good thing is that I continue to be debt free with MasterCard balance at zero, so I continue to save money for deposit of EV.

Now between trying to decide on 2022 Mach-E or 2022 VW ID4.

One one hand since I owned many different ICE Ford Mustangs, Mach-E is appealing but VW ID4 still has EV rebate

If I place order for the Mach-E, it will be in grabber blue or cyber orange ( Select 100A )
Can not remember performance stats of basic RWD model but hopefully not stupid slow.

Regardless have to stay RWD for driving characteristics

Opinions appreciated

The Select is a great car. Any decision is with respect to what you compare it to. The Select is a win compared to the Bolt and VW ID4. Tesla isn't playing in the corner of the market so that makes it easy.

Mach-E still has tax credit (not rebate) too.

Bolt was not considered at all

I think the select is a fine EV but for me only downside is not available with extended battery so less range. That is why I went with the California Route 1 model for the additional range. I saw a Select a couple of weeks ago and loved the optional wheels, I'm bummed that I can't get them on mine as an option. As for RWD I'm going AWD because I know I would be disappointed if I didn't do it.

Also I'm going with California because Ford has upped their game for 22 MY. 21 MY California had no heated seats , heated steering wheel or optional AWD, for 22 MY California has all this standard. The California model is also $2500 less than the premium and the only thing missing is 3 extra speakers for the radio and no waving your foot to open the lift gate. Neither of these means anything to me so in my opinion the California Route 1 is the best deal going on the Mach E!

*Correction, California Route 1 AWD is optional but even with that it's $2500 less than a Premium model.*

We looked at (but did not drive) an ID.4 before buying our Mach-E, but both my wife and I hated the ergonomics of the infotainment system, not to mention the touch buttons on the steering wheel. For most people, probably not a problem, but for us it was a deal breaker...which is a shame because by all accounts it's an otherwise good car and a good EV. Might be worth checking out as part of your decision.

Have you driven both? I think you'll find the ID.4 noticeably slower than the Mach-E. But only you can decide if it's "too slow".

Sorry to hear about your Tesla troubles...good luck with your decision!

There is no ID4's available to drive at Sudbury VW dealership as only select dealers in Ontario has access to order them.

I used to have 2019 VW Jetta, and build quality was excellent .

I have a base select with no package and I think it’s the best deal. I commute 80ish miles a day on the freeway and only use 30-35% of my standard range battery. I’m really skeptical of some of the people that “must” have extended range batteries.
having no package is perfectly fine for me. I don’t really care for glass roofs, motorized hatch, or ambient lighting. The adaptive cruise control is perfect, no need to pay for bluecruise.
The Select RWD is slow compared to the AWD but I’m pretty sure the ID4 is even slower.

Wait what? They stopped making the car you ordered and now won’t refund the deposit? I would very strongly press on that

Slow is different for everyone. 5.8s on the select is pretty good for me coming from a rx350. Real world range is 270 miles. I went with select because didn't want to deal with pano roof issues like heat and noise.

I would dispute the Tesla order credit card charge and expect to win.

I have a Select RWD SR battery with almost 9000 miles......depending on your driving style you should get more than the 230 estimated range in warmer months....here with temps 30's at night and 40 ish during the day, at 80-85% battery, I have about 245-260 estimated range......and I know the winter cold coming will decrease that some......but, I believe you can counter the cold loss by altering your driving style some....

I got the comfort/appearance pkg with my Select......having had a c max energi w/heated seats,, I needed them on the Select sooooo I got the additional pkg at that time $2300 extra......I didn't care about anything else but the heated seats......w/the pkg I also got 19in wheels, auto liftgate, aero covers, black painted top, and one or two others extras I don't remember (no additional tech stuff, fine w/me).....

the car is plenty quick for this old guy, so unless you are really into speed, it should be fine (test drive too)......

Definitely not "slow" (we have a Select RWD) it's rated for 5.8 0-60 which equals my twin-turbo Explorer Sport. We thoroughly enjoy the base MME, you won't be disappointed.

One thing about the select is it has a lighter battery so a better power to weight ratio than some other models.
