It is "optional" already as it is, one would have to explicitly select it to use it. I understand where you are coming from but I think your views are somewhat extreme. I don't use 1PD as well as brake hold either, for the sake of consistency between the two vehicles I drive daily: the other one is a Honda Odyssey and a relatively consistent brake response (even though some have complained about MME's blended regen/friction brake implementation, it felt natural to me from day one) reduces the chance that I might make a mistake when I can least afford to; as for brake hold, I actually like the feature but when parking the minivan in my garage I have only inches of clearance so I leave it off in case I need to move forward by another inch or two (with Honda brake hold defaults to off at engine start, I only engage it if I am driving on a route with lots of traffic lights); MME is ~27 inches shorter so clearance should never be an issue, but out of old habit and the fact that toggling it on/off requires drilling down a couple of levels on the touchscreen menu I have left brake hold off for now.Never been a fan of 1PD for this exact reason. This is a variation in brake response depending on how fast you are moving and the model. In my volt in 1PD the car creeps forward but not in my I3, my Etron and MachE don't have 1PD engaged at all. The Etron in particular does not have creep forward so it will roll backwards when you take foot off go! Been several fender benders due to this. On my I3 1PD almost caused numerous accidents in icy/wet weather as when you take food of accelerator the 1PD slams on braking before you can feather it esp. going down hill. So dangerous I refuse to let my minor children drive the I3 at all. Even my wife will not drive it in poor weather.
I hope the whole 1PD thing goes away or at least becomes optional add on. The most efficient drive mode is to let the car coast/free wheel. 1PD prevents the car from its most efficient mode of operation.
