I wrote my state representative, Mr. Ozinga, about changing the law back to where you are allowed to order vanity EL license plates and here is his answer:In Illinois (after January 1, 2020) you're forced to buy an Electric Car license plate that is $100 more than regular plates (BEV's don't pay motor fuel taxes) and you can't get personalized or vanity plates. Bummer.
Dear Michael Barrows,
Thank you for contacting me recently regarding electric vehicle registration plates.
Your feedback on this issue is appreciated. As your legislator, one of my most important tasks is to voice your concerns in Springfield. Your views and opinions are important to me in deciding on how to vote for the 37th District on legislation.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your opposition on this issue. Your comments are always welcome and appreciated. Please contact my office with further questions or concerns on this issue or other district matters.
Sincerely,
Tim Ozinga
IL State Representative - 37th District
Kind of a vanilla type of letter and I’m not sure it will get anywhere but at least I tried.
