You can use it for other purposes like problem investigation, and/or updates for cars outside their warranty window. I don't see the argument that they sold you a software license for FDRS as authorizing you to update the car.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, this is just my own interpretation.
Sounds like you probably shouldn't do your own updates since you're concerned about it. But to answer your question, yes I've had warranty work done after doing updates.

21P22 is very extensive. It covers pretty much every module in the car. You can read Ford’s instruction to the dealers in the attachment at https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...re-did-my-dealer-do-all-of-the-updates.13081/

As a result, these two paragraphs from your original thread are not in disagreement.

Now, for future updates, your concern is valid. My hope is that Ford will get better at OTA. I just don’t see dealers routinely updates all modules whenever a car is in for service.
According to the SecuriAlert messages it took them a total of less than 2 hours which included the car wash when they finished.

Thanks. technical here, but the risk of ‘bricking my car’ gives me pause. All updates to systems aren’t smooth. (Sigh)

I really don’t want to deal with a dealership again, unless a warranty/collision item. Just surprised to see this I guess. Not enough diligence/research performed on my side.
If you are having issues then you can research the section of this forum that has the TSB and updates listed and then see which one might apply to your symptom. If you then complain about that symptom to your dealer, that should be enough for them to apply the update under a warranty claim.

You need to have an issue to get your car repaired. If you buy an ICE vehicle, then you can't just go in and ask for a new engine if your existing engine isn't broken. Same basic thing with this car. If it's working fine then nothing to fix.

And make sure the issue is recreatable. If the dealership can't recreate the issue, and doesn't take your word for it, they MAY not be willing to proceed.

This is exactly why I went with the extended warranty, I don't want to run into problems after the 3 year warranty expires.
How much is ELW and what does the miles/year options look like?

Geico offers 7year/100k warranty. I think it is free, have to call and check again though, but a $250 deductible.

Ford's software update process just sucks. So frustrating they can't get their act together after a year and half of production. Definitely search the forum and find TSBs for the issues and bring it to the dealer. Ford's bill for dealer software fixes must be huge. I bet Ford Corp is not happy with the incompetence of OTA updates.

Are you guys discussing about these OTA?

Can't these be done at home like a laptop or smartphone?

My car was at the dealer for a mishap on my part.. I asked the dealer to install the software recall while waiting for parts. Thanks to Ford Pass, I saw that they moved the car and opened the frunk then couple hours later moved the car again.

My question is why does Ford Pass have the recall highlighted and then when I click on it, it says 'recall incomplete' Did they not finish? Is it a reporting thing .. How do I find out if the recall was succesfully installed??
