Coming down from speed faster is better (less time at speed?) as long as you don't overrun regen.
I don't believe this is correct.

Driving as slowly as possible, coasting and avoiding aggressive changes in speed is the most efficient way to drive in any car. Regen is not 100% efficient, so it cannot be as efficient as driving a consistent speed and coasting when you can. If you slow quickly, you are spending more time at the less efficient, faster speed. If you start slowing earlier, and slow very gradually, you will spend less time at the faster speed, you will limit regen losses, and it will be more efficient.

On a side note, you can coast using 1PD just as you can coast using 2PD. The drive mode may make it easier to drive more efficiently, but one isn't more efficient than the other as long as 2PD is using regen to slow the car. (Some cars might not use regen in 2PD, but the MME does.)

You can coast with 1PD enabled. It's all about the position of the accelerator pedal.
I thought the accelerator was a binary switch - all the way down or all the way up? ???

I was speaking to a friend yesterday with a Lightning. He said "people ask me why I floor it from 0 to the speed limit. My answer is 'because I can' ". He said "people ask me why I take a Michigan left (i.e. a U-turn in the middle of a divided road to get the congestion out of the intersection) and power slide it. My answer is 'because I can' ".

We owned a Fusion Hybrid and then a Fusion PHEV. When I or my son drove, we played around trying to maximize efficiency (my wife just drives). When we bought the Mach-E, we bought it for many reasons. No where near the top of the list was "to maximize efficiency thereby negating the pleasure of owning this vehicle".

Driving 67 in a 70 zone to eek out a tiny improvement is not something I will do.

Relying on an inaccurate efficiency readout, that jumps from 2.8 to 3.0 and then back to 2.8, with no display of decimal places, is not something I'm going to rely on.

When the speed limit is 70, I drive 73 - 75. I don't do 78 much because a) I don't want a ticket and b) I see the noticeable change in my efficiency. But I'm not doing 65...

Let's do the math per mile on the example given. $5 to drive 200+ miles. That's about 2.5 cents a mile. So, if I drive 1,000 miles, I save $25. That's over 14+ hours of driving, or about 34 cents an hour. I'm going to deprive myself of that pleasure by driving 65 behind a truck that's kicking up stones on my nice car? NFW.

I'm finalizing buying a Lightning. It goes 0 to 60 in 3.8 vs. 4.8 for my Premium. I intended to use that second gained wisely in the years to come...

I would agree. It's not often that @RickMachE agrees with me (without specifically saying he is) and even uses my math. It's an honor!

I might have to make a special trip to Michigan so that we can celebrate.

I might have to schedule a trip out of state to be elsewhere... ? :p?
