Now that winter is upon us, the fog on the windshield forms very frequently.

I know how to defog the windshield on the touchscreen (and with the physical button too), but is there anything we can do to treat the windows to make them less likely to fog up?

(I really don't like the fact that it takes 2 presses on the touchscreen to turn off ventilation - the ventilation options screen hides itself after a few seconds. If there's a solution to turn off all ventilation with one press or keep the ventilation options screen open for longer, that would be nice too)

Rain-X makes an anti-fog treatment. I haven’t tried it.

From my experience with Ford climate control systems (2013-2020 model years), when going from "manual" to "auto" will often times turn off the A/C. I have found that I need to have A/C on nearly year round in order to keep the windows clear. Moisture + heat = foggy windows best friend here in the PNW.

Perfect timing for this post! I'm taking my car in for service tomorrow and was going through all the bulletins to see what I can get done while I was there. It seems MME have an anti-fogging feature, which does seem to work as I've never turned on my front defroster and its been, uh, cold here in California (50's and 60's).

This is a bulletin from Ford:

Some 2020-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are equipped with an anti-fogging feature known as enhanced windshield anti fogging strategy (EWAFS). This feature automatically adjusts airflow in the cabin to prevent the windshield from fogging up and may be perceived by customers as irregular climate control functionality. To reduce fogging, the EWAFS functions include: the air condition (A/C) button may turn on and off automatically, recirculated air may turn off automatically in all air modes except MAX A/C, recirculated air may also turn on and off automatically in various airflow modes in order to improve heating or cooling efficiency, and in auto climate control, high humidity conditions may automatically engage A/C compressor, increase blower motor speed and/or direct more air to windshield. Continue to monitor the Workshop Manual (WSM) for EWAFS updates.

That would explain the car turning on the AC by itself and freezing my a$$ off when it's 50 outside.

I really like the Rain-X external windshield treatment.
I've heard good things about the external windshield treatment, I'll give that a try. thanks.

It seems MME have an anti-fogging feature
So you leave the ventilation on 'Auto' to get this working? I guess my issue is that I want to turn off ventilation completely immediately after the windows are defogged to conserve battery.

That goes even further back. I have a 2011 Lincoln MKZ (fancy Ford Fusion) and it turns off the AC when switching. Drives me nuts. AC on is AC on.

I'm resurrecting this old thread. In the region where I live (eastern Quebec), winters are cold and wet. I have found that if I set the ventilation controls to Auto, the windows fog up very quickly. If I leave the fan with the settings on my feet and in the windows, it still fogs up. The only setting that works is to manually turn the fan on (position 1 or 2) and leave the airflow setting in the windows only. Obviously, if I use Max Defog, it works, but it is very noisy. Honestly, I thought if I set the fan to Auto, the sensors would detect humidity and fogging, but it seems not. For people living in a winter environment, do you have the same problem?

Your description equals my experience. I have not tested various settings though as when it starts to fog up I just go to window vent. I did try Auto but windows fogged right away so I am just manually controlling climate. I am not to sure Auto is the best option in extreme cold situations even though Ford recommends it.

Make sure to clear all snow out of the pocket below the windshield wipers. This will aid in de misting.

Do you all not have an element built in to the front screen to demist? It's standard in the U.K.

No, not in the North American market, unfortunately ?

I use auto setting at 73 degrees and NO recirculate. Usually precondition before dirve and no fog with comfy cabin.
