Imagine having a free Level 2 charger in a premium parking spot at your apartment complex, but jerks with ICE vehicles keep taking it when your battery is low.

My side job is photographing and reporting them to management...

I see it has lines painted. Is this a towable offense in your plan or can the HOA enforce towing?

Don't get me started on that issue.

They have the stickers, but they're "allegedly" no longer allowed to use them, according to corporate.

The sign behind the car says you'll get towed. You won't.

Nevada is a mess. The leases say that you have to have valid plates on a vehicle for it to be on the property. But here's the nightmare behind that. Nevada has a high annual property tax on vehicles. For example, the plate and registration cost for my MME was $916.

So all over Las Vegas, you'll see cars with no plates or expired plates. The cops basically do nothing about it, and probably figure you'll have to square with the DMV sooner or later.

I was reporting the no plate and expired plate vehicles also, because they may not have insurance either. But, I got shot down on those with the latest management.

At one point, one of the maintenance guys was driving a car with no plates on it.
Dude. Don’t be this guy.

That is why perks like these should not be placed in “premium” parking spots. Less chance of jerks occupying the spot if it were in the north 40.
Geez. What if it cost more to install the remote EVSE and the company was not interested in paying the additional cost?
The only mistake made was thinking residents could be civil.

Not cool at all, but, look on the bright side, it could be much worse. You could have a new neighbor with a Tesla who beat you to the spot and is charging instead of you! :p?

Why should other tenants pay for the EV owners charging plus give them preferential parking? My thought is that at least if the spot isn’t prime others would not block it. I am not an advocate of free charging when costs are passed on to others nor special parking just because I drive an EV. Just my personal opinion.

It’s probably driven by installation cost. The premium spots are closest to the panel and require shorter runs and little to no concrete work.

In principle, I agree with you that while we undergo this transition, anything we can do to reduce friction would be worthwhile.

Here's the situation where you would have a point. We had a lady who was juggling a Bolt and a Tesla driving for Uber and Lyft. At that point, she crossed the line between personal and commercial use. And she was constantly charging those two cars.

I bitched about it to management, but they sided with her for some strange reason.

But it resolved itself. I think the repo man got the cars. Haven't seen them in months since a tow truck was here for the Tesla.
My only point, and I really do not care, is providing a prime spot and free charging leads to this kind of behavior (Tesla lady and ICE vehicle). If tucked away people probably would not block it but not much would change about abusers of the free charge. I can afford to charge my car so I leave any freebies to those who need it (doubt there are any where I live but I don’t even look.)

Thank you!

A lot of people are not willing to confront bad behavior. And if abusing the chargers is tolerated or the norm, it’s a deterrent from EV adoption by the masses.
It’s because the confrontation rarely goes well nor does any good.

I’ve never met an inconsiderate person who is reasonable when confronted.

There is the super rare situation where people truly “didn’t know better,” but this isn’t that.

An example in my past was a diesel truck driver who pointed out that only one of the gas pumps at the station had diesel, so if you drive a regular gas car and there are other pumps available, the nice thing to do is not use the one that has diesel. Never occurred to me. My bad, thanks for letting me know.

@FadeOutLines, what’s the make of this unit? There are some that require approval from an administrator (like an HOA) before authorizing a charge regardless whether they are free or not. Wallbox Pulsar Plus is one and it’s a NEMA4 unit that’s very robust and highly rated by State of Charge.

As we progress toward the 2030s, there's probably much room for innovative patents.

For example, we use key fobs to enter all the doors in the complex. Making chargers work with the key fobs would be cool, too. And it would enable tracking of who did what.

This thing is in poor shape. It needs to be tightened up; it wobbles when you touch it.

Several members here believe this company to be pretty solid with reliable chargers that are US-made. I'm not familiar with them. If the community wants to control who can charge and keep track of how much charging is taking place, there are inexpensive solutions like the Wallbox L2 ($700). If helpful, I'm happy to DM you the contact info of their rep. I'm in no way affiliated with them, but know about them cause we are looking to put one in at our condo building.

Keep up the good fight!
