I think the other posters who said the cost would have been high to place the charger in an isolated area nailed it.

I do concede that there are too few handicapped spaces, especially for a senior community. They're always fighting for those. I've got a 100% disabled veteran plate with a placard, but I don't take the spots unless my back is out and I'm walking crooked.
Now you introduced a very real use case: a driver with a handicapped placard on their EV. Do we park them in BFE?

Why should I pay for the big ol' swimming pool and 50 fifty lawn chairs out back when I don't use it?

Should I continue with the other amenities I don't use that I'm helping to pay for? Like Happy Hour on Saturday afternoons, etc.?

There's one Level 2 charger in the whole community. If there were 25, I might agree with you.
So I guess there should also be a free gas pump?

The gentlemen from Alaska's opposition to apartment complexes having a free Level 2 charger for residents with EVs is noted.
I am against it when others are paying for it. No problem when a business wants to provide it to their employees. I just think it is wrong and causes issues (as in your case) but as I stated just my opinion and obviously not shared by all.

But for clarification: Are you opposed to all the amenities that residents collectively pay for regardless of use (swimming pool, fitness room, happy hour, etc.) or just the EV charger?
Anybody can use them whether they have an EV or not. Only an EV owner can use the charger and the prime spot. Once again - just my opinion and I have no problem with people that think differently. I am a Vietnam Era Vet, like yourself (I assume), but I chose to leave any available VA benefits to those who need them. I feel the same way about owning an EV - I will leave the freebies for others.

Imagine having a free Level 2 charger in a premium parking spot at your apartment complex, but jerks with ICE vehicles keep taking it when your battery is low.

My side job is photographing and reporting them to management...

Ford must have put the keyblade in our fobs for a reason. I wonder what that might be? ?
IMPORTANT NOTE: I would never condone vandalizing other's property but, if I were to slip on the obviously unstable pavement, and catch myself by grabbing out to the car, while holding my keys ... ?‍♂

Why should other tenants pay for the EV owners charging plus give them preferential parking? My thought is that at least if the spot isn’t prime others would not block it. I am not an advocate of free charging when costs are passed on to others nor special parking just because I drive an EV. Just my personal opinion.
Preferential parking is found at many apartment complexes. Sometimes in the form of numbered spaces, paid spaces, higher rent units, handicap spaces, vehicle size, manager preference, etc.

They likely have a walker or wheelchair. They can roll from a farther spot

You may suffer twice. He may get you towed. I knew one hole who parked his motorcycle just to keep a parking spot for himself. When arriving in his car he would move the motorcycle to the side, and parking in that spot. When somebody else parked a car next to his motorcycle on that spot he would call a tow company complaining that somebody blocked his motorcycle.
And this is why we need, amongst other things, a panic button on the remote and vehicle motion sensors ?

Why not. Aren't we a country of law and order? Or are those ideals only selective?
Yes, but we're also a country of live and let live. The key to any healthy society is striking an appropriate balance between order and freedom. You and I both know there are people who enjoy being the tattlers. The enforcers. They walk their manicured neighborhoods just looking for infractions to report to the HOA. It is their hobby. They cloak themselves in the virtue of "people just need to follow the rules" but the truth is, they enjoy the power. These people are just as much the grit in the gears as the rulebreakers. There is a time and place to make a formal complaint, and a time and place to be neighborly. You'd be amazed how much more progress can be made by striking up a friendly conversation as opposed to hectoring someone, even a dirty rule breaker.

Are we? That's...not....the impression I've been getting lately. Like...at all.

I don't disagree with you that's where we SHOULD be. But only if the live and let live mantra isn't impacting someone else negatively.

The expired tags and all that, totally 100% agree...let that one go. Didn't put your trash can away right away? Let that one go.

But someone parking in an EV charging spot? Tow em. If management company won't take care of it, call a tow company yourself....ESPECIALLY if the interaction with the asshole was as described.
