To any Ford engineers listening, I greatly dislike the new brake profile after updating my car all the way to BC. I use 1PD exclusively and in the 17 months I have owned this car, I have not had to use the brake pedal as much as I have had to in the recent weeks since my car went to 21P22 and beyond. I may be in the minority but I much prefer the RTM functionality. I was surprised when my Ford engineer daughter recently drove my FE and exclaimed, ā€œwhat happened to your brakes, these are horrible.ā€ I couldn’t agree more. I sure would appreciate the ability to customize the brake profile a bit. I’m already dealing with three different EV’s with different sensitivities anyway. Sadly, the MME is my least favorite currently.

She doesn’t have a channel for feedback?

21P22 did not change the brake profile, at least for me.

My brake profile did change when I got 22P08 and whatever updates the Ford Engineers did at that time. Yes, it is very noticeable, and I don't use 1PD.

I swear my brake profile changed with one of the earlier updates, and it’s exactly what OP is mentioning, all of a sudden it took it longer to stop in 1PD

2.4.2/2.7.2 adjusted the braking profile per release notes
  • Fixed the brake pedal feel to allow for smoother braking
  • Updated the charging curve to increase charging speed above 80%
  • Minor fine tuning ā€œhere and thereā€ to ensure things are running smoothly
  • First update of several to enable BlueCruise

My experience has been just the opposite ... I remembered distinctively that at 2.7.2 my 1PD feel improved dramatically, it is more forceful, stops at shorter distance but it no longer grinder to full stop ...it got more of a velvety sensation. However, every time after car wash I have to take it for a spin otherwise when I put in reverse it binds very badly, this does not happen after driving in heavy rain or through puddles.

My wife said the very same thing after the dealer updated the software.

For my car, the transition from regen to friction brakes was quite smooth and now it is much more harsh. Perhaps a sensitivity adjustment might help those of us who have this issue?

The level of regen changed as well but I have learned to adjust to it pretty quick. It was more aggressive before and less aggressive now but I can really only observe the differences at higher speeds. In town the regen level feels the same pretty much.

I’m a two pedal driver. Prior to the OTA brake recalibration, applying the brakes resulted in an almost brake lockup. Stopping was harsh and freaked out drivers following too closely. Brakes are more responsive now to pedal pressure and easier to modulate.

Sounds like cars with bad brakes are better now while those of us with good brake feel went backwards.

Should be improvement for all or just those that were suffering. Wish there was a way to avoid affecting those vehicles that were already working well.

I recently got my Mach-E back from the dealer where they installed a bunch of updates. I agree, the brakes feel different, and I am not totally used to them yet, but so far it seems better, and I previously had no complaints.

I had previously trained myself to brake a certain way on the Mach-E to make it a smooth stop. My method no longer works, seems more like a normal car now, which is great but will take a little bit of time to get used to for me.

I do not drive with OPD.

I don’t know if this will help anyone not liking the new feel, but try to think of it as a new car, where you gotta learn the vehicle’s characteristics from scratch. Trying a prior method or relying on muscle memory that already exists I think will lead to frustration since the old profile is simply gone. I am thinking of two pedal driving when I say this.

I had the updates and it seems smoother to me but just slightly. I also exclusively drive in 1PD.

Hmm.... I actually felt the update allowed 1PD to be smoother and less of a jolt when releasing the pedal.... I have had a couple times i've had to use the brake pedal, but just have to learn when to release the accelerator and breaking distances and such.

I think i've been a fan of the change... always felt there was a bit of jolt previoulsy that I don't sense anymore. (Especially when you're in BC/Cruise Control and release it and don't have your foot ready on the accelerator to take over)

I’ve had my car a bit longer now with the change to the brake profile and I’ve changed my mind. The brakes are a bit too grabby at the end now. Ford programmed it to stop more aggressively then I would prefer in the last few miles per hour before stopping.

While before I knew to press down harder a bit at the end to get a good stop, the vehicle seems to over do it on its own now, and you can’t really avoid it, I’d prefer to feather it more than the car allows for the last bit of deceleration. I’ve noticed I’ve been doing more rolling stops recently to avoid the sudden stop, not a good habit.

I hope Ford changes it back to how the brakes were, or gives a way to opt out from this ā€˜smart’ braking.
