I have been seeing people creating MagSafe mats from 3d printers on several forums of different car brands and decided to take a shot at it my own way. I wish I had the luxury of a 3d printer but unfortunately I don’t at this time so I started looking on Amazon for different types of MagSafe docking systems. This was my solution on a budget.

First I traced a circle on the rubber liner, around the mount I was using and cut out the template. I then mounted it right onto the plastic below the rubber with it’s included 3m tape.

After all of that was in place I ran the wire down the console, behind the panels and into the center console I have this properly powered to it’s 15w output.

Overall I’m very happy with the quality of the material. It’s a very weighty feeling aluminum that feels complimentary next to my orange 5 Spurs metal knob covers.

I actually like that because I get Slack alerts and security alerts from my home cameras that don’t show up in Car Play and with it auto highjacking the CarPlay my phone ends up dead or too hot to touch and dead.

I agree, the angle is perfect for those notifications for apps that aren’t on CarPlay.

Great solution and one I would like to try. Could you provide more detail on how you powered the MagSafe charger. Where is it connected? Thanks and well done.

Thanks 😊

I ran the wire behind and along the center console and have it routed and tucked behind the plastic panels. Then I have it hooked up to the 12v outlet in the center console. I used an anker charger that’s 40w.

I thought the factory USB-C port was 15 watt. Is it less? I know the wireless pad is 5w.
