I've heard of some early Tesla drivers who put something special in their frunk for these kinds of inquiries. He'd bring the questioner around, open the frunk and show them a little motorized device with a chipmunk running on a treadmill...

That would be a great site...... I was thinking of putting a flux capacitor in mine off of Amazon!

The ideal set up is if they ask, "What's under the hood?" Answer, "A V-8." You'd not be lying.

Two of the EVs at the event over the weekend had V8 in the frunk, and for the same reason.

I don't think you can get V8 in a 5 litre bottle.

My father is a Mustang nut. He had a '67 GTA that is now in the possession of my brother. Whenever I visit my father I tell him I'm driving a Mustang now and show him photos. When he asks about it I tell him it's electric, and if we ever raced it would leave his GTA behind handily. One of the (very few) benefits of Alzheimer's is I get to impress him with these facts every time I see him.

My humorous 'not quite understanding EVs' is when a gentleman about my age wondered what would happen if stuck on the freeway for several hours. After explaining twice without him understanding that it would just sit without using any electricity, I said "Hopefully that won't happen."

I was thinking of modifying the label on my V8 bottle to incorrectly list the volume of the bottle, or maybe blowing the label up a placing the label on a small bucket. Still something I want to do but haven’t had time for.

Ironically, if one had solar panels, they might actually be able to charge when the ICE cars can't pump gas.

My neighbour is fully away that the Mach-E is electric, but I still don't think he quite gets it. I told him it was fully electric, with just electric motors, and he asked me to see them - so I opened the frunk and explained that there was not much to see. I really think he expected to see an electric version of an ICE engine - size-wise.

He was a bit confused.

Even with the tub removed you can’t see much of the front electric motor. It’s buried under all that cooling and power handling stuff.

You should have opened up the Frunk and filmed his reaction. I did that once when I was asked what’s under the hood.
