I noticed that my volume knob pushes in slightly with a discernible click, as if this is intentional. Does anyone else notice this? Could this be a potential future “gesture” for the volume knob (for example, some people would like the ability to “mute” the sound system. That seems like a reasonable way to implement a mute button.)

Yes it does, It also doesn't adjust the volume if you push in and try and turn it.

Either pushing it in, makes the dial not register, or they are planning on letting you push it in to make it adjust something else.

I think it is due to the mechanical nature of the 'fingers' in that dial. When the dial is rotated, there are little spring loaded 'fingers' that touch the screen. I imagine it might be similar to a bearing cage that has little openings or windows but I haven't taken one apart to investigate. I think you are feeling the spring in there. Probably not any kind of switch or anything.

On a side note......I think the reason the dial is so lightweight is because it is bonded to the glass. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few of these fall off after many years of use. Time will tell. :)

For some added detail about the 'dial', (I could be totally wrong with this one) but thought that this might be helpful.

Land Rover were the first to put dials in their cars with the Range Rover Velar, and they are from Panasonic's Magic Ring Control system. If you follow the link it goes to a press release about their new for 2017 tactile rotary controls, which look and seem very similar to MME.

I cannot find anywhere where it says that Ford used Panasonic as a supplier for their screens, but this would not be the first time they shared parts with their old family members.

I had 2 screen dials that pushed-in on my old 2019 Range Rover Sport, you can see it in the pic below (not mine). The buttons allow you to change the air con temp or seat heater/cooler with a push, one for the driver and one for the passenger. For your peace of mind, they held up to a lot of abuse including spilled coffee/drinks, things knocking into them, and plenty of push and twists throughout the 3 years and many miles we put on the car.

Why are you pushing the radio knob in? Touch the inside of the knob to turn on and off the radio. Turn the knob to higher or lower volume.

yes, would be a nice way to control something, along with the useless "OK" button on the steering wheel.

The knob being pushed in "means" something, just nothing yet. As I said in my post, the volume doesn't change although the "click" happens when pushed in. So the system clearly "knows".

If you push and hold the volume knob it will take you to a "quiet" screen.... Surprised they haven't done more with it.
