Hi all,
We took our MME on its first actual road trip and by extension DCFC session last weekend. Everything went great until we were heading home and I stopped at a rest area. It was a really windy day, and I thought I parked far enough down the row. Well my wife stayed in the car while I ran in and I came out and she is waving me over.
An older lady had parked next to us and when her door opened I guess the wind took it and it nailed the passenger rear fender of our MME. I guess she started just walking away and my wife stopped her, she initially claimed it just hit "the rubber" (which I guess she clarified to mean the rubber on the inside of the door edge?)
But our car was clearly damaged. So I got her insurance info and put in a claim. The dealer body shop can't get us in until mid-late May. Anyway, I was wondering what the thoughts were on how bad this is going to go as far as repair. I would have considered just doing PDR, but it's right on a body line crease, and the black plastic molding is also scuffed pretty good.
With the paint color it's tough to get it to come out well in pictures. The first two pictures are after I cleaned up the "scuff"/paint transfer as much as possible. The third I left because with the scuff/paint transfer it's easier to see where things hit.
I really wish I could just PDR it, but have heard on an "edge" like that it's rough. I don't think there's anything I can do for the plastic molding around the tire but replace it.
Yeah, it's a ding, I guess. But it has 4000 miles on it and is in such an obvious spot. I told my wife I almost wish she had just fully run into us. Somehow this being both so minor and such an eyesore on a brand new car just blows.
So again, any thoughts/experiences on what level of repair work is likely coming. I am hoping they can PDR the dent and replace the trim. With how the body panels are on this car I would hate for them to disassemble the whole quarter panel and trim up around the doors for this.
