There is nothing good about a battery powered vehicle in really cold weather or anything long-distance. I have seen nothing but horrible reports from people from all manufactures of battery powered vehicles. I will always have a gas powered vehicle for long trips until the infrastructure is billed out to have charging stations at every gas station.
I put dilithium crystals in my ER battery... SHHHH don't tell ;)

Yup. I stopped using the Mach-E for any trip exceeding 150 miles. Boy did I get a ton of flack for making a thread about it.

The simple fact is… unless you’re in a Tesla, don’t road trip with your EV. I genuinely feel none of the big automakers are taking charging infrastructure seriously. And that includes Ford with their “dealer” charging stations plan.
Are we still saying this as Tesla is opening their super chargers to us? Perhaps as they have opened only a fraction of them?

well at the moment, it is just 10 sites, so it's a pretty tiny fraction.

also only the Version 3 and above superchargers will be capable of supporting CCS. not sure what fraction of all supercharger sites are V3.

as reliable as the supercharger network is, what with the short cable length and the parking problems it brings i feel like superchargers are still a last resort, at least for me.

Someone had mentioned that they might have put these in areas that don’t get a lot of use. If that’s the case there will be space for parking anyway you need.

the real issue as you mention is how fast they expand the number and when they do in less remote areas, then you will have to deal with the parking issues.

That sounds like it will get a 2x boost with better fast charge infra, possibly including precondition? I have also got a lot of 30kw when i think I should get 60kw, like they are not capable of the right voltage
No @Womps mentioned that we have 50 KW chargers here. The MME hardware is configured such that the max we can draw off these chargers is about 44 KW so no 2x boost. It will also then hit a wall at 80% after all that tough 44 KW charging and drop to 33 KW. He is right it takes the car 1.5 to 2 hours to go from 10 to 80% on these 50 KW chargers. It is disappointing that after sitting there that long and the batteries are all finally warmed up that it hits that wall at 80% making it tough to get it to 90%. Would be nice to get to 90% in another 10 minutes and not stop so often. The 80% wall on 50 KW chargers is a bit of a slap in the face for us guys.

Recently, I had an issue with a Electrify America set of chargers were all 6 of them were out of commission. So I called technical support and they were very apologetic and also said that they were dramatically increasing the number and quality of chargers over the next few years then I read about that they were actually going to do and it was going to be a drop in the bucket in terms of what we actually need. Also, true of the federal government program and state and local programs probably 1/10 of what we’re actually going to need in the next few years.
Absolutely! I had the same experience with tech support. Probably at least 5 years behind the curve.
