Dumb Phone

I am contemplating ditching my doom scrolling Apple phone for non-smart flip phone which does not provide internet. No Ford Pass and presumably no way to talk to the car (assuming it has something useful to say). Has anybody out there had any experience trying this? Or thoughts about the wisdom of trying?

You don't need a phone talking to your car to use your car. Your car has its own modem to talk to Ford and get updates. If your new phone doesn't have Bluetooth, you will lose the ability for it to automatically call 911 should your airbags deploy.

I'm debating de-Paak'ing mine, hoping it's just a 'delete this key' option. But even a dumb phone will have bluetooth for hands free so you could still use the phone part of it. Address book/phone number list will probably suck but it would work fine.

Road trips may be more problematic if you don't have apps available.

I don't have any social apps installed on my phone. The only thing close to doom scrolling I do is reading the Google News feed. I try to ensure I'm not clicking on all negative news stories so the algorithm doesn't skew my future feed that way.

My phone serves as an extension and interface to my home automation system. Soon it will be an extension of and interface to my MME also.

Don't forget Apple and Android both have limits you can set on your daily usage of specific apps.

Keep in mind that this will also delete your backup start code.

I'm attempting to build a Faraday 'box' that the keys will hang in, trying to block the signal to the garage a few feet away. I have a feeling it's not going to work though. I like the back up start code, but that code is in my Bitwarden vault so if I lost my phone I couldn't remember it if I had to lol
