Makes sense. I think the Torklift and Kuat would be a smart choice if the pedal clearance works out. I'm on the fence about whether I'd want to live with a bungee cord solution, but you could probably also look at hitch extensions. I know they exist but I have no experience with them and wouldn't know if they compromise the stiffness or strength of the system.
