For anyone that follows the challenges Fire Departments have with EVs, this is very interesting. As a retired Asst Chief and EMS Captain, gasoline and in my early days, Magnesium, were always difficult but nothing compared to Lithium Ion thermal runaway. Although I am not active anymore, I do 'hangout' at the firehouse and listen to the concerns they have. This new technique looks very promising.

Yea, that "injection" system from Europe is a very smart system for extinguishing battery fires and looks to prevent runaway as well.

May end up becoming a standard piece of equipment for fire fighters.

New method helps prevent/stops runaway.
That is a BIG difference vs covering the vehicle with a blanket to eliminate oxygen.

No oxygen needed for a thermal runaway, that's why it can happen under water. The blanket just suppress the flames.
