Agreed. I used to refer to myself as a native Californian because, despite being of primarily Northern European descent, I was born here. But when I learned that the term implied that I was of Indigenous North American descent, I stopped using it. Now I just say that I was born in California or I'm from California. It's really not hard to correct yourself when you find out you've been saying something harmful or appropriating a culture that is not yours.
