Hello I am new the forum. I purchesed my 2024 premiun Eawd about 2 months ago for my wife. My question is when I charge the battery to 80% what range should I see for a 91kwh battery. While the car is still in the garage I go to the Ford app I am only getting 190 miles. That does not seem correct?

Ah, it's autumn and the GOM readings are falling again. You're fine. Time to do some reading:

Let me explain it to you so you can understand (I'm having fun, because you work in an elementary school).

Johnny goes to swimming in gym class and likes how the girls look at him when he wears his swimming trunks. But, once he gets in the cold pool...

23 GT AWD Michelin cross climate two tires, It’s gonna change with the weather I find I get the best mileage out of my vehicle when it’s about 80° out I guess 75 80°. I find to get the best mileage when it’s hot. It goes down quite a bit when it’s real cold it goes down..

Jerry, Gulfport, Mississippi doesn't know what cold is... Then again, neither does Bellevue, Washington though they do get into the 30s overnight.

Endless threads here as we enter winter each year people saying "why am I seeing 190 miles at 100%"...

OK Rick I grew up in the upper peninsula in Michigan and last year when I had this car in February it was 29 one morning so it does get cold down here one morning 18° with windchill so I haven’t had it full full year yet, but it does get cold down here Not all the time but it does drop below freezing I realize that.

The range estimate (or GOM - Guess-O-Meter) is trying to calculate your real world mileage based on a few things, including size of the battery, charge level, real-world driving habits (how heavy your acceleration and braking tend to be over time), your preferred climate settings, and current outside temperature.

EVs definitely feel the crunch of colder weather pretty significantly. Range can be reduced by maybe up to 40%, especially if you're keeping your cabin warm, keeping the steering wheel and seat heaters on, and the outside temperature is below freezing. But to be fair, ICE cars suffer a similar, yet less pronounced, fate (10%-20% reduction). The main thing that makes it more noticeable in the MME is the fact that the GOM is showing you miles, not just a "fuel gauge", and on ICE cars that I have had that had an estimated range display, they weren't very accurate when it got cold. So at least the MME is trying to be accurate (with varied success, there are just too many variables)

I live near you. It’s about right. We lose about 20-30 miles until next spring.

It also depends on her driving habits.
My wife’s i4 has shit range until I get behind the wheel. Mine drives crazy aggressive. 100% range is 301 on that car.

If you want more range, charge it to 90%. That's what my manual recommends.

Um, at the risk of public math, I’m gonna go out on a limb here, … and say, … if you want even MORE range, charge to 100%.

I leased the same car in August. When I first got it home, and with average temps then ranging between 70-90 degrees, I was seeing around 242 mile range displayed at 80%. Your numbers, if accurate, would better fit a standard range battery pack, although I’m not suggesting that’s what you have. The forum is full of threads where members complain about the inaccuracy of the ā€˜guess-o-meter’ In these cars, along with charging regimen suggestions that might help re-set the car’s baseline. For instance, I noticed (in my FordPass app) that my dealer had ā€˜topped up’ the car to 100% a handful of times while it sat on their lot, often from pretty high charge levels, before I leased it. I’m sure they did that so prospective customers could see the max range number on a test drive; I know I saws it. Maybe that helped calibrate the BMS?
I have noticed a 10-12% drop in estimated range now that the temperatures in November have fallen into the 40-55 range, so ambient outside temperature seems to be a definite factor.

Recommendation is to charge to 90% on NCM extended range battery.
Sort of. The recommendation is a little outdated and probably more applicable to an old model but we wont belabor that.

You are absolutely welcome to charge to 100% if you plan on driving soon and the trip should have the battery dip under 90% if you are super anal.

The not charging to 100% does not mean NOT to charge to 100% just done leave the car at 100% for a long time, that's bad, for a NMC battery.
