Ya, I have 1PD turned on, also have auto-hold turned on. I know you don't "technically" need auto-hold but car drove me nuts without it. I've not tested that for a long time though, back when I first got the car it would ever so slightly move. I thought I was nuts till I had hung an air freshener on the mirror and I could see it swing. Once I turned on the brake hold it stopped doing that. I've not tired that for a long time though.

I turned the auto hold off in my car a couple of months ago after 2 years or so. I’ve noticed no movement now. YMMV. There’s no harm in leaving it on in day to day operations as far as I can tell though.

The brake you operate with your arm/hand instead of your foot.

It's a very common synonym for parking brake.

A mechanical bar/handle you pulled up to set. A button on the handle you pushed and then pushed handle down or sometimes just pulled the handle up another notch and then pushed down. Used your hand, not simply a button.
Pushing a button would be a button brake.

Yeah, far too complicated. I’ve used PAAK for most of the 2+ years I’ve had the car and have never had this particular issue.

I still refuse to buy the argument that people who have problems w/ paak are liars.
And I believe those who have other MME problems that I have not experienced (which are not many).

If you activate the parking brake on your MME, you'll notice that you do pull it to set it. Anyway, that technicality doesn't matter at all. There are myriad terms and expressions whose etymology is far removed from modern society, yet the vernacular remains because enough people understand its current meaning.

The fact remains that "handbrake" is a widely accepted term for what @portlandg referenced. I was only responding to your initial comment because it seemed you hadn't heard of it before, seeing as you underlined the first half of the word and added a question mark. Seems I misunderstood your point.

Never said they were liars.Nor has anyone else that I’ve seen. I have no idea where you got that particular thought nor why.

Auto-hold doesn’t functionally do anything different than the 1PD auto hold. Even the dash light won’t indicate auto hold unless you apply the physical brakes. The only difference is that 1PD auto hold is deactivated as soon as you switch to neutral and I don’t believe that’s the case if the auto hold light is on.
I think your issue was related to the one where the car moves backwards because of slight pressure on the accelerator under the right circumstances. If you’re triggering auto hold (by applying the brakes) you’re eliminating that issue. Ford probably modified the engagement point at some point, I know they messed with the brakes a lot lol.

parking brakes were also found on the floor - set and released by foot. called it the parking brake
and there were even push button gear selectors in the late '50s/early '60s. Chrysler. Even the Edsel had it. I thought they were neat (tech.)

If I open the door with my seatbelt off while its in drive and auto hold or 1pd it will go into park and put the parking brake on.

This is generally how I exit the vehicle.

-unbuckle
-open door
-car puts itself in park with Parking brake
-hit off button
-get out

Just saves the steps of putting in park and parking brake. IDK why it doesn't auto set the parking brake like some other Fords when turning off but it doesn't. I almost never put the car in park manually myself. I will sometimes set the parking brake manually if I turn it off before opening the door for it to do it.
