I naively presume that in order to maintain the quantum superposition (not to mention enable superconductivity), the "battery" would need to be held at cryogenic temperatures at all times.

In addition, wouldn't quantum decoherence be a huge (i.e. battery instantly spontaneously combusts) hindrance to scaling?

So for use in a car, it doesn't sound at all practical, at least in our lifetimes.

At least they didn't say crypto
This is funny to me. My job is to sell cybersecurity solutions to government entities. Some of the verbiage in our products are Quantum Crypto-Key Rotation. We're full of buzzwords!

It almost seems like an April fools joke with the timing but in reality Kirk and Picard had to power the Enterprise somehow now didn’t they …Bring on the quantum power…I guess. Something tells me it might be more expensive than gasoline

Also apply some quantum power to Ford motor company as it appears more than a few cars are bricking and breaking out with high-voltage connection problems. All extremely similar. Most requiring a full battery swap out ?

I would be perfectly happy with a full charge in twenty minutes at a location with a coffee shop. There is a sweet spot for charging times where the driver gets enough time to spend some money in a shop/store and the chargers aren't blocked by one vehicle too long.

Funny enough I am an early shareholder of a start up called QUANTUMscape that is working on solid state battery technology. If they are successful the battery sizes could double while the charge times are cut in half.

Something like 10% to 90% battery in 15 minutes with easy charge station access most places is the point where charge speed won't matter much beyond that and a road trip in an EV will be a similar experience to an ICE vehicle.

I just invested heavily in Quantums. $3,000 smackers. By the time you suckers discover the market for them, I'll be a millionaire.

I made a special deal, I only have to keep 50 tons of them at my house.

....I know a guy.

Ford tech: “Ahhhh, here’s your problem right here. You’ve got a collapsed wave function. You didn’t open fordpass to observe your charge level, did you? Quantum charging works best if you can avoid observer effects.”

“Quantum charging could go well beyond electric cars and consumer electronics. For example, it may find key uses in future fusion power plants, which require large amounts of energy to be charged and discharged in an instant.”

We have fusion power plants?!
Key word there is "future". I sure hope so!

You didn’t hear? Elon has perfected fusion reactors in his spare time.

step 1: invent cold fusion.
Step 2: use cold fusion to charge MME in 9 seconds.
step 3: profit.
