Okay so I've already secured financing through my credit union. What do I need to know? Will they try and sell me on other things? Do I need those?

They may try to sell you on an extended warranty and other things like paint protectant etc. Whether you need them is personal preference in my opinion. The extended warranty you can always do at a later time and you don't necessarily have to do it through Ford.

I would watch the following videos:
F&I Part 1
F&I Part 2

As long as they don't do any funny business before you go back to sign the documents those are the best things to learn about. They will generally push their services and extra contracts. Don't let them try and claim you have to buy those products to get the deal you've already negotiated with your salesman. I believe it's illegal in some states.

As far as do you need them? It really depends. Any service contracts, in my opinion, are complete BS especially with an EV. Don't let them just give you the monthly payment for anything you're actually interested in, ask them for the total cost and weigh whether it is worth it to you. If you're interested in an extended warranty I would get a quote from https://joinyaa.com/extended-warranty/ to get an idea what a "fair" price on an extended warranty. You can also use this as a bargaining tool. Don't be afraid to ask what it costs the dealer for the add-ons and negotiate a price from there.

If your vehicle hasn't been delivered to the dealer yet, I would contact your salesman and request them not add any "standard add-ons" when it arrives at the dealer. If they claim something was on the vehicle when it came off the truck (I've had a salesman claim this) ask them why it wasn't on the Window Sticker from the factory. If you don't want it, tell them to take it off.

That may not be the best route.

Ford Options provides an incentive (use date of order) that may be worth financing through Ford, because it's a balloon payment at 3 or 4 years and is less per month and may be a good rate.

My best recommendation is to get your pricing document in writing at the time you order the car. If you are purchasing, you can go with your CU loan or see what Ford is offering when the car comes in. Current incentives are not guaranteed to be in effect when you buy the car. Ensure they include X-Plan and any other state incentives involved. If you are buying one off the lot, be prepared to negotiate ADM - there will be some and it will be large.

It's completely up to you, but after seeing what Granger Ford is pricing the Ford ESP Premium Care policies for I feel it is a no brainer to have a policy that covers a lot on the car including the LED lighting (including the headlights... but you have to specifically add that option) all for under $1,000 for 6 years/75,000 miles. Keep in mind with the MME the factory warranty on the car is 3 year/36,000 miles.

You can see their details on the following thread Granger Ford Thread. You just need to let them know how long you want the warranty to go for (time and miles), if you want to add the lighting package, and how much of a deductible you want (if any), and they will send you a quote.

Also keep in mind the MME does have a 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the HV battery and some of the EV parts too. However, if items like the Ford Sync system, window motors, LED headlights or tail lights, climate control parts, seat heaters, door latches, etc. were to go out those would all be 3/36 coverage and some parts like the LED headlights are over $1,000 just for the parts alone. Also know that the extended warranty from Ford starts on your in service date for your car so in the case above a 6 year/75,000 mile policy is really extending your 3/36 warranty by 3 years and 39,000 miles.

Thanks Heisnuts. The dealer I bought my car was trying to sell me something over $2000. Glad thay sense prevailed and I did not sign the dotted line. Will reach out to granger and see what they cost.

If you are considering a Ford extended warranty, buy it online within a year's time of your vehicle purchase. Got mine from Zeigler. With the PAYINFULL discount code, a 5yr/60k-mile, $100-deductible warranty with first day upgraded rental was nearly $1000 less than what my local dealership offered. Let's put it this way: a 10 day rental for $60/day while the car is laid up at the dealer, pays for the entire extended warranty.
