I thought it was part of the Ford Mykey system
I am not sure... may be it is used as a passive key to program fobs? But there is is no mention of what to do with the metal key in the manual and there is no key hole .

I'll have to do a search, but I thought it was the Mykey. I had assumed that, like all Ford pushbutton cars, there would be an alternative spot to insert the Mykey.

Give me a bit to search....

Edit: Starts on page 66 of the owners manual.

The metal key is only there because they are using a part shared with other models. There is no pattern cut into the key because the Mach-E does not have a key slot anywhere.
Yup this is a parts-bin issue. It's "waste" but probably cheaper than designing a new cap for the key that doesn't have the blade on it.

Looks like this is saying to remove the key blade from the key fob. The key blade is unrelated to MyKey and can actually interfere with programming a new MyKey.

I don't know about you all, but I think the blade may be too thick for nail filing, too. Bummer.

I'd have to agree with you after reading it again. I just had remembered reading about the key blade, but since I have no intention of using Mykey, I just skimmed the section.

You might call it the key to nowhere.

Also, I think this qualifies as our first Mach-E easter egg.

Letter opener then?

Too thick to be a toothpick so rule that out.

Hmmm, I love a good mystery!
