Given Ford won't even do the bare minimum and put charging speed on the screen in the car, I'm not terribly shocked that they haven't implemented this on a phone.

They are embarrassingly bad at the 'tech' side of building EVs.

I have to agree with the sentiments of this thread. Seeing the screenshot in the article referenced really hit me. FP is just so ugly with a terrible UI/UX that doesn't create a compelling user experience. It feels so old.

RIvian in contrast:

Lock screen and dynamic island would be nice enhancements for sure.

I don't know the details of the iOS SDK, but I would think those capabilities would not be huge changes since FordPass is already running in the background and has the data like current charge %.

It's crazy that some guy from Apple was brought into Ford to help lead Ford's software efforts and I'm left wondering what exactly did he bring to table. Certainly not any of Apple's software updates consistency. Maybe they should hire some software leaders from Tesla and Rivian; stay away from the GM software people.

I mean, the UI is nice but is a live activity REALLY that big of a deal?

Rivian is lacking things that the MachE and Lightning have like...
  • CarPlay/AA
    • With EV routing for both
  • In car entertainment (only YouTube but better than nothing in Rivian).
  • Sirius XM
    • For an "adventure" vehicle, crazy they only rely on cell service for radio. When on trails, you won't have service...
  • Charge Assist App (saves from needing to download tens of random provider apps)
  • V2H (Lightning)
  • Heat Pump (24+ Lightning)
  • Any kind of service network (Rivian SCs are booked 3-4 months out, such bad horror stories)
So yea, I'd hardly say Ford is falling behind Rivian when Rivian is missing things Ford has. They are just missing different sets of features, so pick your poison.

So I took a trip this last weekend. Normally I do not sit in the car while DC fast charging. This time I did at one stop. I recall turning on accessory power to listen to the radio. I believe I saw something like the picture JohnFoxeSheets posted on the driver display. (sorry I didn't take a picture) Maybe someone can do this and post what the mustang shows.

Yes, the IPC shows everything except the charge rate, IIRC. I don’t DCFC very often.

I don't fast charge much either, but I know what you're talking about, I think the one thing missing is the rate, although I'm not sure that's a crucial as the other info like current percentage and time to 80%.

I think Ford made a UX decision to show the clock time at which the car is expected to reach 80% in the IPC. For people not active on this forum, or diving into the details of charger output, that may have been a reasonable decision.
From my experience, it's maddening when the clock time keeps climbing because the charge rate is dropping.

Yeah, I didn’t say the info was useful! ?

I think people who judge a car by what phone app it uses are cute.
it does make a livability difference. I’ve had two week-long Tesla rentals from Hertz and they allow you to connect your phone. Needless to say Tesla’s app not only performs better, it gives much more granular control of functions like climate control.

No, I would not jump to Tesla just because their app works better, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping Ford is able to implement similar features.
