I will be dropping off my Mach-e for a bunch of Recall work next month. The dealer has no loaner of any kind to give me. Does Ford have to rent me one? If so, how do I go about getting it from a dealer who does not want to.

Ford may reimburse you for a rental. The dealer themselves do not have to provide one of their vehicles.

What my dealer does is send you to a rental company that they work with. (Hertz, Enterprise etc.) The rental company bills the rental to the dealer to pay via warranty. I have to cover the extras if the rental daily cost is more than the daily allowance.

Ask the dealer if they work with a rental company. Maybe find another dealer that does either provide rentals or works with a rental company if a rental is important to your situation.

You might want to search for another store who is a model e dealer. There will soon be pick and and drop off with a loaner coming for free from the dealers as a Ford requirement.

Thank you for the information. I will first try this before considering another dealer. Been working with them for years. The way they talked, they were up to speed on the recalls and such. I think they may be getting the EV thing now after 2 1/2 years.

They are still selling Mach-e's and LIghtning's so I am assuming they are sticking it out.

They will only give you $40/day for a rental reimbursement, which is not enough for an economy car these days. The will also deny your reimbursement if you rent anything other than a Ford or Lincoln vehicle.

As suggested, it would be best to find a dealer that actually provides loaners.

When my car went in for the glass recalls this was the rental car that Ford paid for.

To say that I was elated to get my MME back is an understatement.

This is an area where Ford fails. A recall deserves an equivalent loaner (whereas normal service or warranty deserves nothing). Providing a fixed amount per day, which is often inadequate, or a vehicle that isn't comparable, is unacceptable. Requiring a Ford or Lincoln vehicle is total BS. This has to change.

My dealer offers both pick up/drop off and loaners (the loaners are VERY limited and must be scheduled far in advance).

When my Prius was in the shop for a month, I got a rental/loaner from the dealership, that was significantly cheaper than renting from a car rental, but wow, that Chevy Trax was terrible. I wonder if dealers would be more willing to keep loaners available if they charged for them, and for warranty repairs, Ford covered the fee. For repairs outside of warranty, people may be willing to pay, especially if it's cheaper and easier than getting a rental elsewhere.

I never NEED a loaner (big stable), but when my dealer had a Lightning for FCTP, I asked if I could take it and they obliged. It sealed the deal when it came time to order a Lightning.

Ford does cover the cost of loaners to the dealers, up to a point. Each dealer gets a budget from Ford. However some dealers blow through their budget and then they don't want to give you a loaner. And Ford does allow dealers to charge for non-warranty loaners.

So they do all that already, there just isn't guaranteed funding from Ford to cover warranty loaners.

It's a budget, not a per warranty repair reimbursement? That's annoying. A dealership that does a lot more warranty repairs (or that's short staffed and thus takes longer for repairs) would use up that budget much faster, whereas a per warranty repair for how long it should take for the repair would incentive getting the repair done as fast as possible, instead of putting customers at the mercy of when the loaner budget is reset.

I just got my car back for a simple warranty repair, tire rotation, and the parking brake cable CSP.

They offered pickup/dropoff with a loaner without me even asking... This was a first. In the past this dealer only offered their own rentals, when they had them, or to Lyft me to Enterprise. They'd usually pay for the rental but not always.

Of course, they fubared the dropoff/pickup yesterday, causing me to miss some work and overall it was less convenient for me. Also, it was supposed to be a Mach-E loaner but then they brought me an Escape instead... But, I already expected a poor experience so I wasn't further let down. ?
