Yeah I understand it’s frustrating. But is it better being frustrated or to be happy with the car you actually wanted?
Yeah, I want the Mach E, its our family's second car and it makes sense to have one electric and one ICE. It would also look nice sitting next to my 93GT Convertible that I have had for the last 22 years.

That being said... A BMW 5 series, Genesis GV70, some other electric car would all be fine too. As long as its fun to drive I really don't care if its running on gas or electricity.

There are dealers taking far more orders than they have allocation for, I have and order for a 22 because last may when I talked with my dealer he told me upfront he only had allocation for three 21 mache's and told me I would be better to wait till next year.

I may be a bit biased but even the cheapest EVs are more fun to drive than an ICE vehicle.

Yes, the Mach E looks good sitting next to my 18 year old Dodge Ram!

I ordered on July 21st and still don't have a build date. Call my dealer and they are completely useless, say they'll look into why I haven't gotten a build date and then get a call back saying they don't know anything.

There are things that Ford can't control and I understand that. What I can't understand is how people who ordered months after me are getting build dates and their cars while I've heard nothing. This has taken all of the fun out of the car buying process. Even if I get a build date this week it will be about a year since my order date to me actually getting my car. Again, if everyone was waiting a year then thats what it is. But thats not the case. Why should I even want a car from a company that can't simply prioritize the oldest orders first? The lack of contact or any updates at all is just maddening.

I'm going test driving cars this weekend and most likely going to cancel my order. Primarily because I'm just sick of waiting on a car that they seem to have no interest is selling to me. Fortunately I'm at the point in my life where I can just go get the car I want and pay for it up front. If Ford doesn't want my money thats fine with me. The F-150 I was planning on getting next year is being converted to a Ram or Toyota as well because I tend to hold grudges.

Cars being test driven this weekend

Genesis GV70
VW ID.4
Maybe the Kia/Hyundai electric

Any other suggestions?
Amen! Go to dealers and tell them what you want and when people back out either because they cant afford it or they ordered muliple cars in multiple colors from multiple dealers you can find one. I did. I gave it 6 months and said enuff is enuff.

I feel your pain and frustration…. Sitting on a 6 month wait with no build date. I see you are a fellow Minnesota, it looks like the EV6 is starting to hit our area. Taking the Mrs out to look at one today. I really like what it offers in charging speeds and vent seats. Biggest hurdle is convincing my better half that Kia’s are good cars.

I almost bought a Stinger prior to putting in my order for the Mache. Going to try to test drive one today. The catch is that I need a car relatively soon. Ordering for another 18 week wait is probably not an option.

I drove the ID.4 prior to ordering the Mach e. It was ok, but fairly boring to drive. A friend has a Leaf and that is not exciting at all. My manual CC is more fun to drive than either of those cars.

A side note about something you said in your original post. Offering a cash payment doesn't entice dealers like it used to. It's actually a turn off for most. With interest rates in the tank they would much rather get you into a lease or finance agreement because that's the way they make money. Especially true with the MME which has a $1 profit to the dealerships. In fact, you should never tell a dealership up-front that you are paying cash. If your intent is to do so, keep it to yourself until the car arrives and you are in the final process of making the purchase.

You're anger is not directed in the proper place. Your dealership isn't being truthful with you. If you place an order in July, and it hasn't been scheduled, it's likely because your dealership has no allocation left, and they aren't telling you that.

Ford doesn't sell to you, they sell to the dealership. You placed an order, like most people, not understanding that when you placed an order has little to do with your priority. Your dealership then didn't explain that, because it's in their best interest not to.

If you buy another car, and then buy a different truck, it won't impact Ford in the slightest. You might want to contact your dealership's owner or GM and make sure they know why you're pulling business from them. They may or may not care though.
If they are no longer taking orders in a few weeks and your dealer has no allocations then you are done stick a fork in it

Or they could have other orders prioritized higher than the OPs. The dealer controls this.

I'm sure being in Minnesota didn't help with EV allocations. If you can't wait, you're really stuck unfortunately. I'd place orders for a lot of things if I was in your shoes and just wait for whatever you can live with shows up 1st.

Like others have stated, the dealer doesn't really care and at the end of the day, we need them/the car more than they need any of us looking to pay MSRP.

As far as how long you are waiting:

I placed a reservation on the Ford site on Jan 4, 2020. That was changed to an order at the end of June 2020. I took delivery on March 30th, 2021.

So about 15 months!

Do not regret it at all, except for how the fix for the OTA problem in the APIM is being handled by Ford....
