Back up. Looks like the tech team at Ford restarted their DigitalOcean VPS.

Seriously though, this isn't even as hard as a load balancer even, this is route 53 dns basic stuff. Or if that's too hard, a low DNS TTL and a changed IP and quickly restored VM via Veeam to really anywhere.

Just sad. We should get a fob as this is clearly amateur hour. No longer wonder why it took a months for a sketchpad.
Since you seemingly know what the issue was, care to tell us why there was an outage? It would appear that you're saying it was because of misconfigured DNS entry? Or is the resolution to the problem equivalent to the ease of changing a TTL? Or do you not know at all?

I'll take a try at the blindfolded dart throwing...

Someone deleted a byte code (.class) file whose name included "JNDI" and then ended their work day with a smile and a beer, having just made the world a slightly safer place.

Then many Ford.com and FordPass users tested the change and found that it failed verification because for undocumented reasons lost to everyone remaining in Ford engineering, accessing one's Ford account requires a cryptic log initiated access to a JNDI service.

Was I close? Do I win a key fob?

Well ... If you really want a key fob I'll send you my second one that I have absolutely no use for, just DM me.

And my comment to Mr. idkhow was more of a snarky eye roll because it would appear he learned about these "fancy" technology terms from TikTok and felt this would be a good thread to regurgitate them in.

To be fair, this forum is full of armchair quarterbacking from fans who only know 0.5% of the facts at best... Other than eye rolling, I am nonplussed by any of the "I'm smarter than you" and "only a team of idiots could have designed something this awful" postings at this point. It's not any one member. I'm probably guilty of this, too.

I don't need a second key. It'd just be nice to have. But my car would need to be programmed to accept that second key, too. I think that's the harder (i.e. more expensive and more time consuming) part.

Yeah it's starting to wear on me to the point of being rude. Maybe one day I'll be able to ignore it like you.

I've seen most people report $30-$50 to program one.

I've found that it has led me to pay a lot less attention to the forum and be less willing to offer assistance/explanations. ??

Oddly enough when I checked before going to pick up my newly updated car the system was still down. I checked again as they were bringing the car around and the system was back up. You’re welcome ?

Most online automotive forums are about 90% whining and complaints, 5% snarky responses, and 5% helpful information. We're no exception! Proud to be here and to be part of a typical car forum :D

Edit: Did you know? 70% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

All joking aside, I enjoy your contributions sockmeister.

Car and Trucks Remotes has functional key fobs for a fraction of the Ford price. My experience has been good. If you go that route, make sure that you look at the instructions buried in one of the threads here to program a 3rd key.

In the real-world, does anyone here have any insight into the team that develops our car software? I admit to only being on the consumer side of development as the CTO of a medium-sized organization. I cannot recall a situation that seems to move this slowly on development and communications from an IT perspective. Closest I have come is problems I am currently fighting with Cisco over the last hundred or so switches I've purchased. However, they are at least putting out patches and sharing development information with customers. Ford seems like they are a couple of guys in a garage working on it in their spare time. I know that creates animosity so I'm sorry in advance. However I am really curious if anyone knows the size of the team and resource allocation.

My second key is FordPass PaaK. I'd need a dealer to program a key fob... The diy instructions require two fobs to program a third or fourth.

First of all, I would love to know what Cisco problems you're facing in DMs. I've found that Cisco has one of the best TAC teams in the world and my career with security appliances has been primarily Cisco.

As for Ford there are a few members here that work for Ford and a couple who are developers. They are probably the only ones who can answer that question.
