Some of the relevant bits:

5/60
Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The extended Powertrain coverage applies to all components of the driveline that are not specifically covered by the Electric Vehicle Component warranty. Powertrain components that receive warranty coverage for five years or 60,000 miles may include gears, differential, shafts, fluid pumps, seals and gaskets, bearings, mounts, drive shaft, retainers, supports, universal and constant velocity joints.

8/100
The high voltage battery and eDrive systems of your vehicle are covered by the Electric Vehicle Component coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. High voltage battery and eDrive components covered by this warranty include the high voltage battery assembly, Bussed Electrical Center (BEC), Battery Energy Control Module (BECM), on-board charger, Inverter System Controller (ISC),
DC/DC converter, and eDrive. If a covered component requires replacement under the Electric Vehicle Component warranty, it may be replaced with a new, factory remanufactured, or factory refurbished component, at Ford’s discretion. Refurbished battery components selected for your vehicle will align with your vehicle’s age and mileage and meet Ford’s requirements and standards
This only confuses me more.

It sounds like Ford did a copy/paste from their gas vehicle languages.

We don’t have a lot of the “may include” things on that list.

And if the electric motors aren’t a part of the powertrain, I don’t know what is. The eDrive is definitely listed in the 8/10 you posted.

Wouldn't the drive motor (electric) be part of the EV 8/100k warranty coverage?

And honestly, that quoted co$t is lower than I would have expected. Way lower. So that's kinda good news to me.
It likely isn't the whole cost. I had a similar looking estimate with nearly the same listed $ on a Kia EV motor. The actual cost was north of $13,000

Good to know the price. Surprisingly I thought it would’ve like over 3k for a motor.

So ours failed last year as well. I can’t tell from your videos while moving as you had music on but ours started a groaning sound before it came apart.

Dealer investigated and found the bearings failed in the differential which then pumped metal into the housing and also the electric motor which turns things bad quickly.

Powertrain warranty picked up the cost but we think a deal was cut when they put the half shafts in.

Just wondering, if you wouldn't have shut it off do you think you could have driven it home on city streets?

For the 5/60 there doesn't really seem to be anything we have listed that's not also an ICE thing, but in the 8/100 there is.

The invoice image I posted has a bit of wording describing on what was wrong. It seems like it was different than yours:
Connection 1280 was full of motor fluid and was shorted out

I'm just hoping this doesn't happen again at 94k miles, and lasts longer than the 47k miles I got

There was a loss of power that could be felt already. It would've been still 10 miles away; definitely could've exited the freeway to park in a lot.

But yeah, good question, being home was definitely better, but I didn't try driving it after I parked, I wouldn't know if the car could've run some more, and how much more.

So I think it’s different and same, you also had a seal fail. The electric motor should not have diff fluid in it. Your just failed internally vs externally.

I don’t see this as being a very common issue. There are a handful of examples here and on Reddit of similar issues and these outlets only get people complaining so I feel safe.

I just keep an eye on the units just like any other vehicle. Watching for fluid on the ground or noises.

Just wanted to share an experience with my 22 Mach E California Route with 47k miles.

the front drive motor failed in the freeway.

Dashboard started giving lots of warning signs. Pulled aside and tried restarting the car but I could no longer drive it after that. It would only stay in “Full Accessory Power” mode. Attach video later.

Used FordPass towing, which took two hours to tow to dealership, free.

I’m out of the regular warranty but luckily transmission warranty was still good to cover this. If I didn’t have warranty cost would’ve been $1850. Attached details about repair.

The part was in back order so it took 3 weeks to repair. I had a regular Mustang coupe loaner for the meantime.

it’s scary to have this type of breakdowns with no idea what the repair entails nor the price it would cost until it’s diagnosed by the dealership.

Anything to do with the drive train is covered for 60k miles. If you insure your car with Geico, you can obtain breakdown insurance for very very cheap and be covered for 7 years or 100k miles with only your comprehensive deductible. Or it maybe just $250 deductible.

Ford covers the electric motors for 8/100.
