Has this happened to anyone? Just randomly open on its own with no warning or anything.

I had the rear hatch open once on its own as I walked up to the car in a parking lot. Hasn’t happened before or since.

Yeah it's happened maybe five times on mine, usually while driving, and mostly in year one of ownership. The locking pin Ford uses is not that great.

I think part of the reason it's not happening as often anymore is because I'm more deliberate about pushing the door closed from directly behind the pin rather than above it or to its side.

I don't think @Tampamike watched your video. ?

I did but I guess I didn’t look close enough. So, yeah, I’ve had that happen too a couple times but not in a while. Usually I just forget to close it

I have had that happen a couple of times because I didn’t close it all the way.

Happened with our 2021 MME’s. One was parked inside closed garage. Did $1,000 worth of damage when we opened the garage door from the outside . . .

How did the charging door cause damage with the garage door?

I think he was referring to the hatch opening by itself as mentioned in this thread by someone else. If so, that would make sense.

The locking pin sometimes feels like it's connected but it's only just barely and can pop back open. You have you really make sure you're pressing down right on the pin location and push it all the way in. I can always feel the difference between when it's locked good and just barely.

Me too. About three weeks ago leaving work. I was like how did you know I needed it opened.

I’ve had this happen at least three times. Once while driving. After it happened the first time, I realized it doesn’t have a very good ā€œpositive engagementā€ on the latch … so I am now especially careful to make sure it is closed. Despite that … it has still opened two more times.

The latch is not a Ford design… the same mechanism is used on lots of cars. When it failed on my GT and my dealer was having trouble ordering it, I ordered the same latch from a Mercedes dealer — absolutely the identical part.

I do wish they would switch to something else.

Had that happen the other day while driving. A notification came up on the screen and sure enough it was open when I pulled over.

I wish it didn’t have a spring to swing it open like it does. Otherwise it would just stay mostly closed.
