So are you positing the theory that Ford and LG were not aware of the battery issues before building our Mach Es?
Would be nice to think they fixed the issue before putting the batteries in the Mach E…
So, in the Bolt saga, an assumption was made that the only bad LG cells were in the ones made in Korea. In early August LG informed GM that they had torn down and found defects in US made batteries that were not yet installed in any vehicles, fresh off the assembly line. So there have now been fires with LG batteries made in China, Korea, the US and potentially Poland (VW ID3). To date, it appears that LG has NOT fixed their production issues, even after Kona and Bolt recalls, which were both discovered over two years ago.

If I were Ford, AUDI, VW or Jaguar, I would NOT trust LG manufacturing process.

Interesting analysis/hypothesis on this article.
Ars Technica: Misaligned factory robot may have sparked Chevy Bolt battery fires.

Sounds like GM did the trouble shooting for LG? It also sounds like GM may have ripped a couple apart and has a feel for the scope of the problem? The problem here is one is too many. I agree with the author It is a bonus it is not a mystery and they know exactly what they are looking for. What is the probable scope of the problem that GM discovered? 1 in 10, 1 in 10,000? Bet that info would help a few owners right now. I am just guessing based on a guesstimate probability number.

With the back log on lithium batteries prior to this one can only guess that this is not going to help.

If anyone in California is trying to do a buyback and has questions, feel free to send me a PM. The process varies from state to state, so if you are outside California my experiences probably won't help you at all.

My bolt has over 85k miles but because of the consumer protection laws in CA I will be selling it back to GM for over $38k.
Just a quick follow up. Yep - that's how it happened. I had to push and call a lot to get it done but I got over $38,000 for my 17 Bolt. It was clean and had over 86,000 miles but that didn't really matter much - the amount was based on CA state law. If anyone needs details on California specifically let me know, happy to help.

Figured I'd bump this thread rather than start a new one.

Things appear to be moving forward, and faster than I expected to be honest. (Which is a good thing!) Over on the Bolt subreddit, there are already a few owners who appear to have gotten their battery swaps completed. I'm glad that there is a resolution in sight for these folks - hopefully the pace keeps up, and the Bolt (and EVs in general) can regain some credibility.
